Hi,

I picked up this suncoral on thursday of last week, just want to know if these "bald" patches are anything to worry about.

I managed to feed most of the polpys while it was being acclimatised and probably half of the polyps had some mysis yesterday. I've just added some cyclopeze half hour ago and it looks like all the polyps are open enough to get more food later tonight, so I'm hopeful the coral will be okay just wondering about those bald patches.

Cheers,
Rod

Hi Rod

The ‘bald’ patches and the yellowing on the left hand side indicate that the coral is or has been staved of suitable nutrients.

If the coral is kept well fed (for now daily if poss) with mysis (enriched if possible) and small pieces of white fish (cod, haddock, pollock etc) etc, in time the coenosarc (skin / tissue) will re-grow or new buds well eventually form along the edge of the recession covering the ‘bald’ patches.

Thanks Roger,

Thought it would be due to lack of food. I've been using that seachem reef plus to enrich the frozen food and to encourage the tentacles to come out a bit more (it's hard work feedind the polyps when the tentacles are only 1 or 2 mm long).

once it has enough full on energy and has recovered sufficiently, it will be a joy to feed. Mine was similar when i got it, but nowhere near as severe. Good luck.
