Why? or How? is the water level in your main tank so low.....
I do like some of the rock you have, where did you get it from?
RichB.

Si.
It's an RO Man unit it goes into the top down a tube to the bottom then out the tube into the media then out through the outlet, hope i am explaining this correctly.
:)
So when will you reconnect the sump back to the main tank and place all livestock in to the display from there home in the sump?

It's not filled up enough to fill the weirs but just to mature the rock and allow me to do the rock work ect.
So when will you reconnect the sump back to the main tank and place all livestock in to the display from there home in the sump?
As soon as you get round to help Jon. :p

Get the display filled man, stop fathing around, six months and counting
Progress upto now,
OK got the closed loop all plumbed in and fitted the Deltec 8070S pump, can not wait for the wet test on that baby.
Also ordered so 400 Watt Lumen Brite units that will be with me on Monday, a big thank you to Rob at Marine Lighting for these, ordered them with the dimmable ballasts as well, looking forward to them arriving.
Will be making brackets that are similar to Luponegro's brackets and a big thank you to Dom for his assistance on this and also help with the rail system which i have ordered the same as Dom's.
Going to leave the Giesmann Moonlight unit over the sump and reverse light the sump to the tank to try to get a stable PH and also as i have a large sump i can use this area for other things like a frag tank.
Will post up some pictures once the lights ect are fitted
:)
Is the main display full of water yet?
Are the corals in the main tank yet?
Get your finger out:)
Are you going for a year in a sump:)
You went for the peanut affect ballasts, interesting choice, you know how they work then?

I am now worried that the advice i got on the ballasts was not acurate, can you pm me why you say such a thing as i wish to keep this off the board.
As for the tank, yes its full, no its not on the sump as the returns are not finished being plumbed in and no the corals are not in.
Who knows a year in the sump is almost possiable.:p
:thanks:
It's nice to see such a prolific poster putting up some photo's. I look forward to following this thread, You clearly have a lot of knowledge so I'm sure your tank will be stunning. :)

Don't go holding your breath, post counts do not mean stunning tanks, many members on here with low counts have stunning tanks as well.
As for knowledge i am like many still learning, never say you can not learn something new.
Thank you anyway.

And this one i do not as yet know what it is, started as a plate shape but has since grown upwards and in all directions,

:)
last one is hydnophora i think
looks like you spent a small fortune on that lot!

Cheers Muzzy,
The last two were from frags that have grown on, the Ducan grows like mad and loves its feeds.
The first three from STM, i brought four on the day and they cost me about 140 pounds for all four, a real bargain in my eyes for top quality stock.
:thanks:
OK here is the update on the lights, i have at last finished the light unit and thought i would show you the pictures,

By Christmas Day what year?????????
You have moved the tank a few feet, kangoed a hole in the wall for a pipe and 43 years since you started it still isn't done:whistling:.
I know you are advised to take some things slow in this hobby but do you think you could do as much work on the tank as you do posting on here?
Christmas Eve we want pictures (latest) sod wrapping the kids presents leave that to your wife, just concentrate on completion:D

Don't say that about Carol, Jobr will be upset with you. :p
All plumbing now finished so corals and fish to move tomorrow and then we will be done, had one or two leaks to mend but i have just finished, not too sure if the two OR6500 are too powerfull as one return each, might either have one pump do both or change them both of Ehiem 1262 not sure at present, any one got any thoughts on that?
:thanks:
Right, thought all the plumbing was finished but i was wrong, had another leak, has been a bugger to sort then had other issues so i failed to make the deadline.
I am off to the local pier with some concrete boots never to be seen again.

OK a little progress update.
Changed my mind on how i was going to stop the pumps from overfilling the tank should there be an issue with my two returns, was going to use a float switch that would have turned off my two pumps when the level dropped but soon realized there was a design problem with this so over the last two days i have again drained my sump, fitted another piece of glass to act as a level break for the pumps and refilled the sump and its all back together again working.
Found out there was some issues regarding the flow rate through my grotech ULNS reactor so that now needs a design change and a fitment of a tap to slow the flow down.
Corals in main tank are growing at an alarming pace, maybe down to the 400 watt lights or maybe the ULNS but everything is looking good at this stage.

I can not show you much of this as the in tank pipework is all hidden, i did not drill my tank as i added the closed loop system some time after the tank was made, what i did do was take the pipework up and over the back of the tank.
Ill take some pictures of what i can and post them up on here for you.

cheers mate,
will bear it in mind when i am at that stage :D
fundamentally the closed loop is basically constantly looping water to and from the main tank for flow, without the need for it to go through the filtering processes...
that was my understanding of it, just couldnt get my head round doing that without a pump being sat in a sump or in the tank etc...:D
Here is the latest addition, a new monster pump, just look at the size of it compared to the Deltec 8070S that it is going to replace.

doing a hell of a job man, looks like SPS heaven in there. Did you use the same plumbing when you switched from the deltec to the sequence? Is it undersized now?
Very nice setup. Congratulations.

Very nice setup. Congratulations.
Plumbed in the new pump today, yes used the same plumbing just needed to make a slight alteration to the setup, first impressions is i am a little bit surprised, the new pump is not pumping out as much as i thought it would as it is rated at twice the amount the deltec unit but as said its early days.
:)
Looking good now that the rock has coloured up, Nic eto see the groth you are getting too, what pump rating did you go for?

went with a hammerhead? Those are hardcore pumps man. You are definitely going to want a 2" draw and a 1.5" return if you don't have it already, 1.5" draw is good but 2" would be better. Its not a pressure rated pump so it maybe significantly restricted with smaller tubing (the Deltec draw is only 1.5" and return is only 1" for the 8070 right?). It could be easy to just added another 1" return line and just add a 2" tee with reducers after the pump.
Think that might be why your not getting the pressure your looking for. That pump puts out a huge volume compared to the 8070.

no worries... hope it helps.
One thing i will say about the new pump in no way is this thing quite, sounds like a humming plane in the background and thats with the pump in the outside sump house.
Maybe a rethink on the pump maybe required to be honest, at least the Deltec unit ran quite.

I heard people have gotten some good results mounting them on a wooden board with rubber washers in between the pump and board (threaded in the screws) and then putting the whole thing on a cut up doubled over yoga matt. There should not be any noise coming from the pump, only vibration. You might have something stuck in there. I have the dart as my return on my 120g (I know its much smaller) and it ran dead quite, I had to touch it to notice it was running.
BTW I only know all this because I did a lot of research of sequence pumps for a aquaculture facility I'm planning. Hope all this information helps.

Mine is plumbed into a closed loop and when the Deltec unit is on it, it runs quite but not with the hammerhead, i have had it sit on a piece of foam and many other things and it just makes a horrible noise from the motor case.

hmm... that doesn't really sound normal. Guess you could give sequence a call for troubleshooting. Haven't heard to many noise complaints with the sequence pumps. It might still have to break in as well? Sorry I can't give any more advice on that.

awesome thanks... good buy.
Thing is there is no more room for any high up corals the only room available is down on the sand bed or low dow unless a red SPS came along them i would find room :p
I have close on 50 sps corals now in my main tank so perhaps it's time to let them grow

400watts in lumenarcs in a 30" high tank, should be able to put corals on the sand bed. only 50? Come on man, stock it up :D
Yeah I've only got about 36 SPS colonies but I'm giving everything plenty of room to grow, would love some more red in my tank as well. To bad that Jason Aquatics is almost 5 hours from me, would really like to check it out.
Looking forward to seeing how your tank grows in, I'm sure it will be amazing.

Hi there, nice system you have. In the starting of this thread, the 5th picture of the RO unit, your a booster pump for the RO water, but what is that just above the booster pump? Later when in to get started my 180, I plan to upgrade even more on my RO/DI unit. I run right now on it, two Hi-S DI cartridges and later I will add a second carbon cartridge as well, making my RO unit a seven stage unit. And of course, I will be adding the booster pump as well.

Very true, give me a chance to get the cutters out and frag a piece or two, tried to put corals that do not need strong light towards the bottom though, with my 400 watt lumenarcs is bright everywhere so fingers crossed.
