View Full Version : UV steriliser, do you use one?
Poll put in place for Marshalls2007.
edited to add, I put 4 options in vice 2 and made the voters viewable to give a clearer impression of who has experienced both styles, who never bothered and who knows no different to make it easier to ascertain who's advice you wanna take.
posted by Wee-man in the poll without a poll:
I do (did and will again soon) on my first tank i was assured by my lfs that i MUST have one fitted (sound of till ker-ching) so i had one, never had white spot etc, on my next tank i didn't and got white spot on my regal and sailfin.
The fact that the move probably stressed the fish and caused the outbreak probably had more to do with it than no u/v but i added the new u/v and the white spot went.
Hardly cutting edge hard scientific fact, but that's why i use it, not 24/7 but 4-5 hours per day.

I used to run one on my old tank - the previous owner told me I had to. :)
I don't run one on my current tank. However I do run one on my quarantine setup.
Used to run 1, taking it off today.
Run one on my current but won't on the new set-up
Never used to run UV or Ozone but I do now due to a very heavy feeding regime. It is used to break down the organics rather than for bug/pathogen control.
Pod activity is still incredibly high and I am sure that bacteria levels has not really been affected despite oversizing my UV-c unit.
Nope never used one, I dont feel I need one.
Jeff.
