After reading through a fair few forums and posts it seems that US fish keepers seem to have more problems the UK fish keepers with Ich.

I'm not sure how to do the poll options so simply all I'm after is whether your from the UK or US and have had any problems with Ich, whether you QT your fish and whether you have had outbreaks even after QTing your fish,

Cheers guys and gals

Having moved from the U.S. to the Philippines, I have seen a huge difference in the prevelance of the parasite. I have and can catch any fish or get one from the exporter (who has freshly caught fish as well of course) and plop them right into my tank. Never once have I ever seen Ich on any fish here. But in the states, you have a very good chance of bringing home the parasite when you purchase a fish.
Which can only lead me to believe that during their journey, somewhere along one of their stops in holding or display tanks, they are being "ich dipped" in infested system(s).

Ich is a freshwater disease (Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, the Ich comes from the first 3 lettters) so why would we want a survey on a freshwater disease, wouldn't it be better to have one on marine white spot caused by Cryptocarrion irritans instead?

Ok, marine white spot then, everybody seems to refer to it as 'Ich' which is why I used this in the title:o

Nice one Wombat, keep 'em on the straight an narrow.

The reference to Ich, and the ensuing confusion with Whitespot, is, IMO, where the "always in your tank" and "poor water quality causes outbreaks" myths arise.

Ich has a dormant phase, sleep trigger unknown, and can stay on-fish for a protracted period, wake up trigger is also unknown but usually attributed to poor water quality and/or stress.

Whitespot is not always present in your tank, does NOT have the dormant phase, nor does it have a true carrier state, so there is NOTHING to wake up with poor water or stress.

So there you go BLAM, BLAM two myths busted wide open in two short paragraphs.

Okay, then henceforth, it will no longer be known as "Ich" but instead "Cry"...

Works for me :) and describes most peoples' response to it when they use garlic in a vain attempt to cure it..

Well, as I'm sure anyone who's been reading the threads lately knows, my fish have a rather nasty outbreak of "cry".

Am in the process of setting up a quarantine tank and when I can catch the fish that are still alive will be treating them with copper.

Will have to let you know how successful that is!
