Been to my LFS today, they had some nice stuff in, and I picked up 2 black clowns for my tank :applause:

Anyway, they also had an extremely bright orange coral, except it was called a Red Sponge Coral

I've tried to google it, but nothing has come up so far.

Anybody have any ideas??

The LFS said it was easy to keep, and just needed some Marine Snow/Invert Food to stay well. They also said it could be cut/sliced up, and separated to put in different parts of the tank?!

I haven't any further info, but I have a pic on my bros phone. I'll upload it in 5minutes ;)

TIA

Filter feeding sponges can be difficult to keep (as are most non-photosynthetic corals without a specialist system). Unfortunately, the non-ps corals also can be some of the nicest - my advice is walk away, stick to photosyntheitc corals starting with mushrooms, softs, leathers etc then progressing on to LPS once your experience grows.

Still be interested in the piccy though!!! :D

I'll put a piccy up, 2mins, and you can see if it is what you think...

Yeah, you're learning!!! I always seem to be the bringer of bad news to you though - and for that I apologise :o :D

What's your fascination with filter feeders, BTW?? :)

And I don't know what my obsession is. TBH, in the LFS, as I'm new to this, I don't know what they are.

Are zoas and GSP's filter feeders??

BTW, that £29.99 is not the price, the actual price is £20, but we can get it for about £15 if we want it ;)

Nope, both very easy to look after.

Watch out with GSP though because it can take over and many people wish they had never added it! Jasons Aquatics always have some nice zoas. :)

leave it where it is, orange sponge - filter feeder non-photosynthetic hard to keep with out specialist tank.
info given by shop is not correct, name is wrong , details are wrong, I agree with above advice start with the easier stuff.

Put a couple of quid to the £20 and buy Eric Bornemann's coral book, not being funny here BTW, don't have it myself but have heard great things and will go a long way to helping with your understanding of these weird and varied organisms

Ye I sent him a PM asking for some pics of the smaller zoas, he got back to me saying ring him!? But I want to see pics, not phone details.

Is it worth the trip to his shop in Manchester (is it Manchester?? )

I'll leave the coral where it is ;)

They also have this in atm, and love the colour. Anyone know what it is??

Jason is in Redruth, Cornwall and the majority of UR members who have bought from him used mailorder- relying on the pictures Lindsay takes to see whats in stock.

That looks like a receeding favites to me. :)
