Well, speaking from a woman's perspective, I've been married 20 years and I always thought it was the women who, as Richie says, "embellish" a little on how much things cost.

Anyway, I can honestly say I may reduce the cost of things "marginally" whether it be shoes, clothes or reef/fish things!

What I tryed to do was, tell her tank is for her and I will look after it. When that didn't work I started telling her how much things cost, we now have an understanding, She doesn't want to know:thumbsup:

After buying a new cooker and a shoping trip im skint .My advise never never tell the missis the truth, and if you should tell a little lie:whistling: . make dam sure you have not written the true cost down somewhere:o

I tell my boss the truth, she can't really tell me to get rid of it, because it would cost more to put our living room back together,

See reefers hole in the wall tank are great. once you build them in, its going to take a whole lot of work and cash to take it out again.

She has no 'need' to know; it's my money. If she asks how much something was, I will tell her, although she know's this is not a cheap hobby (she bought me two blastos welsi a week ago, as an early crimbo gift).

My other half and I, have our own bank accounts and one joint account that all the bills come out of. What comes out of her personal bank account and what she spends the cash on is her business - and vice versa.

The joint account is another matter as that is 'our' money 50/50 :)

Ha good thread , I tell my other half prices on equipment and thats it .. as for corals i lie instinctively you bring home an SPS coral and admit it costs 40 quid watch her reaction when it dies .. Its the same as mine but i dont want to hear about it ... woman have a inbuilt sixth sense when money goes to waste i kid you not, And i'm ****ed if im listening to a war and peace lecture about it

i tend to tell my mrs everything, well, nearly everything.

many many moons ago she bought me a new MCE600, just because she came with me to the lfs and i said i could really do with one. She then bought my new tank, well technically as she was mugged the same day i paid for it, and then everything else, but the thought was there.

she knows what it all costs so it's futile hiding it from her, she's just glad that i am spending my money on something we can see and touch rather than blow it all on booze and stuff.

that said, and in reality, i can't really keep prices hidden, certain 'friends' grass me up if and when the opportunity arises :D

I'm loving the comments onthis particular poll :D

It's been hillarious! I took my wife to a proper lfs today. She gasped at the prices I paid for corals but didn't moan

Reminded her that she gets the pleasure of a jag I bought earlier which is costing me £55 in petrol each week (despite the fact i use public transport as I work in Canary Wharf, no need for a car in bloody London!) And she potters within her baby group for Costa Coffee every day!

I think I'm allowed to have some pleasures  (aside from my daughter of course ;) )

Lucky i have 2 wives, the one i married and the one i inherited with her, my sister-in-law who has no concept of the value of money,so when i want to visit my local LFS its wife number 2 who i take along and love being easily led when she see`s all the bonny coloured thingys in the tank:applause:.She then takes the blame when we get home:thumbsup:.
Besides my wife is a kept woman who drives a new Rav 4 and walks the dogs twice daily so she could`nt realy complain but to be on the safe side every thing i own up to is always half the marked up price:thumbsup:

i have a very understanding wife. whatever goes on with my tank she doesnt want to know. all she wants to do is to watch and admire the tank. i have approx 120 fish in my tank. i must say that after 2-3 flood in the garage she still doesnt mind having such a large tank in the house (although she really did complain until the cabinet for it was made).

Having said that just ordered her a car - and now she is egging me on to treat myself
Mostly treat her like a mushroom though (keep her in the dark and feed her s**t)

It's amazing how much of a motivator a marine tank is!
My misses has been wanting to decorate the living room for ages but I kept putting it off. We had been looking a tanks for a while and she said that the room would need decorated before the tank went in. Two days later, living room fully decorated!!!
LFS here I come!

I will admit to possibly being the bigger spender out of the 2 of us when it comes to the fishtank, but at the same time everything is within budget - well, nearly :whistling:

My mother found out I got a new frag yesterday from one of my friends.
"Oh where is it"

"That we tichey thing? How much did that cost out"
"Aw only about £5"
*Friend looks at me thinking...you just told me £20 to minutes ago!" Ha!
