If you run Balling and Ultralith, would you leave out trace mineral replacement with the Balling and run it through the Ultralith system, or is it ok to run trace replacement through both systems?

Is it ok to run the balling trace replacement and leave the trace out of the ultralith system?

Thanks
Mo

HI Mo

The Balling system included the trace elements for growing corals
the Ultralith System also but with trace elements for coloration

If you use both system it can be ecessary to reduce the dosing of the elements in the Ultralith System it depends on the kind of corals and
the lights which you use

Hi Claude

The tank is 8ft x 30" x only 13" front to back. I have TMC Aquaray LED's on it now, I'm going to switch to 250W x 4 MH Giesemann 20,000 K. in a week or so.

This system will be joined by a 4000l system (8ftx6ftx3ft) by March April next year, with both tanks eventually sharing the same sump to aid water stability.

I'm starting Balling and Ultralith now, so I can establish a good SPS system before I start up the big tank...

I have the Grotech 110 reactor for the small system and will get that going in the next week or so. I'm just waiting for a Bubbleking 300 internal Skimmer.

I have the GHL computer with dosing pumps and was planning on auto dosing as much as possible.

Can all of the Ultralith and Balling chemicals be dosed with a pump?. I think Ultrabak and UltraminS can be mixed with RO and dosed as volumes are otherwise very small...

I was going to mix the Balling trace elements with the Balling salts in the same containers as mentioned in the manual...

With this, I'm not sure if there is interaction with Ultralith trace elements and whether I should be using both types of trace elements or not....
Also, what about Potassium.?

What do you suggest?

I plan to run the new skimmer and keep the ROWAPhos reactor on for now. I would then use the stones in the reactor and cycle on and off to start with to get the system going.... would this drop nutrients too quickly?....

Currently phosphates 0. Nitrates 20ppm. Alk 8dKh. Ph 8.0-8.2. Mg 1380. Ca 420.

Thanks for advice.

Hi Mo

You can use both systems together in a tank but not with only one pump

Balling control the calcification system in the tank and stabilisize the complete system.
The Trace elements which you add are only for the coralgrow
For recoloration and special effects you use then the Ultralith elements

Claude,

I bought all of the Ultralith solutions recently and they all had a use by date of Jan 2008. ie 9 months beyond the use by date.

Should I get these all replaced?

Hi MO
Steve has spoken to me about this as far as I am aware the products should be fine and present no risk to corals as they are salts suspended in water, so there is not organic component to oxidise.

I have passed this to claude and will chivvy him to get give you a definitive answer. As I explained in the letter to Steve the dates were some obscure german regulation for new compananies, as we have even had clay based products with a sell by date.

A suggestion from Reefcentral was to ask for fresh solutions. It seems sensible given I am about to start the system and won't know what to put problems down to if I get any....

Could I get them replaced please?
Thanks

Hi Mo

What products did you get exactly
write me a mail to Info@faunamarin.de then i send you new products

All products that we made we produce them fresh and they are good for minimum 2 years. The most products like Lith , Trace and others are complete mineralbased and can be used for long years

We started at the beginning of the year the production with handicaped people and there was some bottles with to short shelflife Maybe you get some of these.
