View Full Version : Tank of the Month - February 2008 - nanonano

It's a common misconception that people think Tank of the Month is only about HUGE tanks, tanks costing thousands of pounds or tanks with a plethora of fish and corals. This simply isn't true! Tank of the Month is about tanks that not only look fantastic but tanks that backed up with good solid husbandry and maintenance practices.
Over the last 12 months or so we've seen an influx of the younger generation making their way into the hobby - sometimes with success and unfortunately sometimes without! Naturally though, this months TOTM is a success story and it's been awarded to one of our youngest members. She may only be 11 years old but she's got a solid set of ideals in her head! And, coupled with the love and support of her parents she's managed to not only get into this hobby and experience it but she's produced a tank that is quite simply striking. I don't know about you all but I certainly cannot remember what I was doing when I was 11 years old - I know I wasn't producing anything like this though!
Alexandra - congratulations on your TOTM. You've got a beautiful tank and you're a shining example of the next generation who are going to continue this wonderful hobby of ours.

How about a pair of Flaming Prawn (Gressingers) Gobies, they would look awesome! Also they're so small I doubt the Clowns would even notice them :)

What a stunning tank you have. Everything looks really happy a good choice of corals and everything works well together.
Its great to see how you have created such a great tank at such a young age and not rushed into things. Something some of our other young reefers should aspire to.

Can we see some pictures of the coral farm please
well ndone I hope one day to have a tank as fab as yours
Twistedpro, Have been keeping a photo diary of the coral farm from day one and also detailed notes so will get around to putting something together soon, just wanted to wait till all the elements of it were bedded in and up and running. Running ULNS (Zeo), Balling, Heavy live plankton feeding and various lighting including a section lit only using LED's
Alexandra is concentrating on frags on small pieces of rock, shell etc to enable them to be incorporated easily into nano setups without upsetting the balance of the existing rock structure and ive been concentrating on applying "Bonsai " techniques to certain coral frags. Its taken a few months for the parent colonies to settle in and start producing strong new growth for frags, however frags taken from Alexandra's nano have shown good growth as soon as they were put into the system.
Regards
Paul
What a gorgeous tank. Well done!!!!

Absolutely brilliant, well done Alexandra, your mum and dad must be very proud to have such an intelligent, enthusiastic daughter, your tank is really lovely and it's clear you put a lot of care and attention into it. You are clearly very industrious with your coral farm idea and I look forward to seeing where you go with it. Have you sold any frags yet?
