We've had a sun coral for just over a month now. We've mastered feeding it and it seems to thoroughly enjoy its feeding sessions.

It is placed low down in moderate flow but maybe not as shaded as i would like but can't do much about this without a full re-aquascape!

My question is regarding colouring. It extends fully at the same time every evening and is usually still out the following morning however i have noticed that it is starting to lose colour between the main bodies from where the polyps extend (i hope i have explained that well enough!)

Does this mean it is dying or suffering in some way? As i said it feeds really well and extends fully.

Sorry i can't provide a pic til Sunday but any help is appreciated!!

Thats the same as mine, very good feeding regime, decent water quality, but yet it still looses some of the Coenosarc, (the orange bit). It hasn't grown back on mine, even with upping the feeding. I read somewhere on here, that people have had great success with New Era Pellets. I think these (http://www.reefstore.co.uk/cart/New-Era-Marine-Pellets-pr-17801.html) are them, a bit pricey IMO, but if they work, and help the SC recover, then cost is regardless in some cases.

A pic on Sunday would be great, as mine sounds very similar situation to yours, but mine, I bet, is a lot worse as it began to loose the Coenosarc, just after I bought it, and hasn't grown any back since.

Less vivid orange-pink or becomes yellow?

I had seen somewhere here - sticky thread or in older posts, that yellowing may be related to malnutrition, and less vivid color - diet can be improved, white fish was recommended (evilervin's post).

In my humble experience, the young colonies have better coloration with the same feeding, and same age colonies, fed by cyclop-eeze (pigmented food) were more salmon-colored, when fed by mysis and chopped seafood colonies were more pale (no wonder, actually :D ).

If the closed polyps look plump, not skinny - the feeding is sufficient, may be add variety and pigmented food.

Thanks for the comments. The closed polyps are plump and looking healthy and well coloured its just the gaps in between where the main body meets the rock it is growing on.

It is a bit odd and i will be sure to take a picture tomorrow. It seems to be feeding very well and fully extending so am puzzled really. Will maybe offer it a bit more variety to its diet and see what that does.
