Hi,

I cannot find this type of sea fan in any of my books. It is the type fishman frags sells. Does it need lots of light or shade?? I am guessing it needs photoplankton. It is currently in medium current and direct light but 24" down tank under 250 halides.
Thanks, Simon

It is non-photosynthetic and will need good non-random flow, maybe alternating to simulate tidal movement. I have my flow so that there is 6 hrs one way and then 6 hrs the other rather than the traditional washing machine simulator most peeps like to run.

I feed mine (yellow polyp version) with cyclopeeze, coral vibrance, frozen rotifers, frozen red zooplankton and decapsulated artemia eggs.

This thread contains a current discussion on a similar species. HTH :)

I believe that coral is an Echinogorgia sp. See here for more photos: http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/showthread.php?t=238501

As per Rich_tilbury, high laminar flow is prefered, high levels of feeding (they are non photosynthetic) and good water quality. They polyps are smaller than Menella sp. seafans (the one discussed in Rich's link), but they still respond well to Rotifers and other fine particle foods. I have been using the FM range of foods.

Water quality should be kept high and make sure that no algae or detritus gets caught in the branch.

I have moved this thread to the azoox coral forum ;)
