View Full Version : More info on Lumenarcs please
Hiya Reefdreams, was just after some more info on your Lumenarc halide kits. I have a 5x2x2 tank and am thinking about getting two of these. What is the difference between kits ? Which do you suggest ? 250w or 400w ? And any other info you have on these products would be very helpful. Many Thanks.

If it's any use I have recently brought these and have two 400 watt lumenarcs over my tank that is very similar in size as yours, i for one would recommend this if you want to keep SPS, my SPS have never looked so good and the growth rate is amazing.

Have you got a chiller furface?
Have you got a chiller furface?
No mate, why are you donating ? ? :D Sorry could'nt resist.
I expect to have one by July cos thats when ones budgeted for. Plan on buying 1 400w halide kit, then probably 2 mths later get another. But just worried that 800w over my tank would absolutely COOK everything.
Just to give some background, my tank is all set and ready to go - so have no corals as yet. I have a sump running through itself which is about 8mths old, going to be connecting it up the weekend. I have two small clarkii clowns and a scopas tang which i will the transfer over to the main display. I have about 10kilos of live rock in the sump and abvout 25 kilo's in the main display. I have a APF600 skimmer and a 2500l return pump ( going to upgrade to a 3500 ) I have a calcium reactor ( not online ) which when i get the bits will be up and running, and thats about it. Trying to only buy gear once instead of upgrading - unless i can afford a Bubble king. :) Oh and a Red Dragon return pump. :)

Ah right, thats good then as 2 times 400 wat halides dont half bung out some heat.
Must admit for the heat issues i was expecting it to be hotter then it is, but when the summer comes ill have a Chiller and Aircon to help.
:)
Lost Boys, any chance of a pic of yours in action or a link to your tank thread. Would be grateful. Cheers. :)

I think the guys above have beaten me to it!
I am running 3 x 400w with lumenarc reflectors over a 6'x2'x2', you will definitely need fans and a chiller or aircon when it gets warm. Some old pictures of my tank can be seen in the February tank of the month thread (2006 i think)
Steve
Thanks for responding mate, had a look at the tank, very nice, will probably be in touch next month :D

Have not got them on but you can have a look at the way i hung them in my tank thread build, link at the bottom of each of my posts.
FWIW, also worth considering is a single luminarc on a light mover, cheaper to run and maintain , less heat issues and very effective. I run a single 400w on a 6x4x2 with good results, so a single on your system should be more than adequate!
Thanks lads :) I can only afford 1 at a time anyway so i will have a chance to see what its like. I intend to keep anthias so who knows 1 400w maybe the way to go. Cheers.

If all you looking to use the light for is fish and not for keeping corals that need strong light you may even get away with a single 250 watt bulb or two 250 watt bulbs instead, just a thought.

I eventually want to keep sps so figure i might as well go the 400w straight away, as i said i can only get one at a time so, i'll try 1 x 400w and see how i go. Thanks for all the advice, just a quick one - How come you had a Giesseman infinity over your sump ? That was my other choice of light mate.
