Hi I have been having problems with this skimmer since I bought it about a month ago and wondered if anyone one could help, as soon as we installed the skimmer and turned it on the pump would not start we had to jiggle the pump up and down to start it, this happened every time we switched it off, I took it back to the lfs and after some poking and prodding with the bushes finally got it working but he did say it felt a little unbalanced, I now have a new problem I have what I can only describe as gurgling sound coming from the air pipe and every time it gurgles it throws out big air bubbles, I have gone through the usual, cleaning in case of a blockage, turning the air off and power on and off, blowing down air pipe nothing seems to work, I can also hear the noise when the air is closed off so its definitely coming from the pump itself, could this be because it might be unbalanced?

yes take it back. when i got my first mce600 i had problems with the pump. My LFS were brilliant. They took the pump off me and within a couple of days i had a replacement pump from deltec whilst the figured out what was wrong. In the end i was left with the new pump and they kept the old one. Go back and speak to them

Went back to LFS yesterday he has been great about the problems, he tried to contact a Deltec rep the day after I got it and left messages on his answer phone but they never got back in touch, Finally he managed to speak to the Deltec rep and they are sending out a new pump. I’m not impressed with Deltec at the moment I also got the nitrate filter at the same time which also had problems with starting the pump but seems to have corrected itself now I hope, don’t get me wrong I know you get the odd dodgy one but two different units with the same pump problem and over three weeks to get in touch with a Deltec rep its not what I would expect from Deltec at all.

Just to tell the end to this story - Deltec had a special pump made for the reactor with a built in temperature switch and sent this out. It did take a couple of weeks to develop this special new pump but this has now become standard on the units.

Hi Stuart, yes Deltec and Leigh Dawson(Rep) were absolutely fantastic the way they dealt with my problems both pumps on the skimmer and nitrate filter were replaced, it restored my faith in Deltec products and have since bought a few more items, but this post does not explain about the true cause of the nitrate filter failure and to why the pump was redesigned, so I will add light for replacement, continuing from above a few weeks later the nitrate filter tripped my rcd and I had found that the pump over heated that much it melted it was like a boiling kettle, after calling my electrician I was told if the rcd wasn’t fitted it was a possibility that it could of caught fire or electric shock, so i took it back to my lfs who was shocked at the state of the pump and contacted a Deltec rep which told my lfs this might of been caused by an airlock which was also reported to be a fault with the calcium reactors, and a new pump was sent out, but I decided to email Deltec with my concerns about a fire as the pumps were not fitted with a thermal cut out device, so Deltec took my concerns that seriously they redesigned the pumps with a thermal cut out and sent me it within a few weeks, there’s not many companies that will go to this length to support a customer and all it took was one email, Leigh kept me informed every step of the way even forwarding emails conversations between Leigh and Deltec Germany, so now I have a new respect for Deltec and will continue to buy more products
