Steve thanks for yet another fast delivery.

I am going to install this in the next couple of days with a full " How To install an ATC 800" then posted on the site. I will post pictures in a step by step guide. I found the posts already posted confusing and not the same from person to person. I have an electrican that works for me and he says its simple just like wiring a gas boiler:D

As promised and thanks to Reef Dreams.

First of all I went to Maplins and bought: -

ABS Black box YN39
2 Trailing sockets (2 plug sockets) ZB41
4 Plastic Glands 5-8mm JR76
I already had some 3 core wire

I turned the ATC 800 controller upside down and placed it on top of the black box and then marked a line all the way around it. After this I marked another line within the first about 3mm.

Then I cut out the inner square.

Then drilled the holes for the plastic glands.

After connecting the glands I started to feed the cables into the box.
From left to right heating socket, cooling socket, and power supply with plug 3amp fuse.

Then power supply Live to no 9
Link 9 and 4
Link 4 and 1
This is accordance with the drawing, power plug Live to no 1 for heating
Power plug Live to no 4 for cooling

Connect neutrals to No 8

Cooling socket Live out No 3

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m269/pjos11/DSC_1166-1.jpg

Heating socket Live out No 2

http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m269/pjos11/DSC_1167.jpg

Connect sensor to No 6 and 7 (doesn't matter which way round)

Using connector block join earths together.

Working demonstration

Temperature set for 24 degrees

The left socket is heating on. Display is showing 23 degrees and as you see lamp is on.

The glasses of water are hot and cold.

When the temperature rose to 25 degrees, power swapped over to the cooling socket as you can see by the lamp.

Job done and working well.

my ATC-800 looks the same on the face...but is wired up completely different...

so make sure that you 'double-check' with the diagram provided with the unit...

how this is wired is obviously correct for this unit
but according to my instructions...
my neutrals go into '9'
live link is '8,4,2'
chiller live is '3'
heater live is '1'
probe is '6,7'
nothing in '5'

Guys,
Can the ATC unit be used to control my chiller & chiller pump, that way I can make savings on my chiller pump running 24/7 as it will only have power when temp getsabove 25...

It can, but there is an issue with the water going stagnant in the supply lines if the chiller doesn't come on for a long period.

I'll get an ETA on the ATC300/800 in the next few days.

Good point about stagnent water, how long do you think it has to sit before going stale, my chilller has a heater built in as well so could go either way, but then this also defeats the atc unit....:(

Anyway just got a delivery from yourselves today thanks for sending on time:)

Good point on this kris - I hadn't realised that mine is wired the same as yours - maybe the newer ones are like this? Only realised after I'd wired it up but fortunatly all ok!

(forgot to say that also my atc-800 has a capacitor which links 6+7 (the probe) to supposedly reduce interference from other electrical equipment - HTH )

regarding the different ways to connect. they are actually the same.
a common live to either 1 or 2 another to 3 or 4 and then either terminal under the 240 volt terminals

Hi all

This is resurrecting an old thread :)

I have just got my ATC 800+. It seems to be running well

I do not understand what the temp dif function does?

Also is 26 a good temp to run a marine aquarium at :)

SPARKY79

temp dif function set to min value
say your desired temp is 26
your temp dif is 1 deg
it will turn the heaters on at 25
and the fan on at 27

I too have just purchased an 800+ and looking at the wiring diagram on the back of the unit I thought yes I can do this...then came across a supplementary leaflet with different wiring diagram - now completely confused - any help would be gratefully received

I had this same problem.

I followed the guide that someone put up on the forum - much more helpful!!
