lol. I reacon that things really do know what their names mean. Like, for instance, we named our car Litvinyenko (or however you spell that ??) and then he died... A week later, someone crashed into us and wrote of the car . and nemo, (yes, my clownfish :o) went and jumped down the back of the tank as a bid for freedom.
Its more my brother who names the things, but I guess it gives them character and makes you pay more attention to them as living things.

When I was a kid and my dad kept trops I named the pleco Angela (mum had a friend called Angela with huge lips). I didn't name the others....too many.

I haven't got any fish yet:( but I probably wont name them when I do. It's not like they'd come flipping over all happy to see me if I called them:D

no....i learnt that lesson when i kept freshwater fish!!!
i cried everytime one died and it made it so much worse to humanise them with a name, so i figure if they have no name and die, i will just get another he same and pretend its the same one so i don't feel bad....!

I voted yes, but they aren't all named.

The coral beauty is called Django (after Django the B*stard) - because he is one at feeding times!

Our first urchin is called Jim - the blue tuxedo urchin we bought later is called Blue Jim (hence now all urchins are known as Jims in our house!).

Our pink spot blennie is called Victor (after Victor Meldrew) because he has a grumpy face and the red scooter blennie is called Spot - no reason for that one.

The rest are just "clown dudes" or "Firefish dudes" or "snail dudes"!

Vicky

Of course my fish have names (and some of the corals too :D).

I've got Colin the clown fish, Ruby the red-tail fire fish, Tarquin the Bangaii Cardinal (thinks he's very posh.!), Terry the yellow tang, George and Georgina the cleaner shrimps, Freddie the fire shrimp and Dick & Dom the two red-legged hermits. Annie the pink BTA, Fingers the Devil Finger coral and Willie (as in Willie Thorn..!) the Acropora.

Also got a new Coral Beauty which we haven't decided on a name yet. She (I think it's a she) is currently going by "Beauty" (not very original I know) but I seriously considering Sybil....although any suggestions would be welcomed.

You've gotta love'em just a little bit else there ain't no point keepin' them..

Some of ours have names but they are usually just stupid ones or my nephew named them!! Names as follows:

Scoop - Yellow Tang, named by nephew after a bob the builder character
Yoshi - Yasha goby
Bassey - Black Cap gramma
Wrassey - Red Head fairy wrasse
Big Bob - A large red leg hermit
Pinchy - Pistol shrimp that used to live with Yoshi but they split up.

We also have a pair of clown fish but they don't have names and neither to our pair of anthias.

Yellow tang - honey
Algae Blenny - Grumpy
Cleaner Wrasse - Badger
Six-spot sleeper goby - Gordon
Spotted Mandarin - Paisley II
Lamarcks Angel - Angel
YS Maroon Clown - Luma
2 Banggais - Mr & Mrs!
15 Chromis - 1,2,3,4 etc

Pistol Shrimp - Hopkirk
Randalls Shrimp Goby - Randall

yeh, i name all my fish and the crusty's too!! They all have their own little characters too (just like other pets)
Here's my lot so far:
Bertie - Humbug Damsel (as Berty Bassetts make humbugs)
Blue - Korean angel (coz he's blue)
Omen - Clownfish (it's 'nemo' spelt backwards)
Lemon - Clownfish (if you take the L out and rearrange wot left it spells nemo)
Slugworth aka Slugger - Sea Hare (obviously coz he's a slug type creature)
Spike - Sea Urchin (coz he black and spikey)
NooNoo - Cleaner wrasse (noonoo on teletubbies was a vacumn CLEANER)
not got a name for our blue cheek goby yet or for the hundreds of hermits or the 2 shrimps!!
Got 3 others which are going back to shop this weekend (cowfish called Tweety coz he's yellow and cute, chocolate tang called chip as in choc chip and a clown/formosa wrasse called clive - dont ask my partner chose it!!)

So i can officially say im a complete saddo!! Who cares!

Do occasionally name fish - like Wifebeater the dwarf gourami (whoever said they were nice natured fish?) I keep threatening to put him in the tank with Linda, Violet, Maxine, Adrian and Vivian - my piranha, who are all named after the most vicious, murderous individuals I have met (and they live up to their names). But the clowns are Female clown and Male clown and the dwarf angel is... Angel...

Generally, can't see the point - they don't exactly come to call like a dog!

*********************

RIP Violet, eaten by her mates after a little dominance issue with Linda!

Names are for tombstones baby. :)

Which incidentally, most of mine ended up under thanks to a certain air freshener.

20-10-08, 21:51
Oh yes all the fish have names. Especially when the young ones come to visit. The usual recital of the cast of Nemo, but I suppose it does help educate them and they recognise the characters from the movie.

I think it shows imagination and fun to name pets and fish are the same, i can see why some people wouldnt in larger set up as there are just too many to count let alone name!

I name all sorts of pets and people i know and meet giving them all funny names and find it a ice breaker and guess its just a friendly way to be. I dont like to be rude just a bit cheeky and most find its just my way of showing affection and the nickname sticks !

Love Guinness the clown Adam! Actaully quite like the drink too! :D

Fish Luke
22-10-08, 17:19
Well I only keep tropicals at the moment, so it's hard to distinguish from most of them, and they don't have huge characters.

No doubt my marines will find names when I get them.
