Ok... this TOTM has taken far longer getting published than it ever should have. For that I apologise but this has been one of the most challenging for many reason - technically, logisitically and a few other ...allly's as well.

What you're about to feast your eyes on is undoubtably the most media rich Tank of the Month article produced thus far. Even as I've started writing this introduction I've snuck another image into it! You just can't help yourself! Without a shadow of a doubt this article will demonstrate just why the UR.com TOTM is so sought after!

TOTM is always special and this months is no different although we do have a slight twist to it! We're all friends here and the reach of friendship shows no boundaries when it comes to this hobby so it's gives me great pleasure to be introducing an article written by a friend of mine about another friends tank.

You've waited long enough so this is the briefest of brief introductions - it's time for hotel heaven - congratulations JW!

It takes a real special tank to be worthy of taking up two tank of the month spots. This is truely worthy of such an accolade! :worship:

Such an incredible mix of colours and life and all done without anything being over-complicated or fussy.

I haven't even read the article yet, will do so tomorrow over a long coffee, but i have admired this tank for ages and every time i see it, it just takes my breath away. Whats more this tank makes an outstanding argument for T5 lighting.

A great tank, and truly well deserved.

Fantastic TOTM write up and one that was truely worth waiting for! This is one of the best kept systems I have ever had the pleasure of seeing.

JW is about the nicest guy on the face of this earth and his system is absolutely stunning! Despite running a very busy and successful hotel, JW is still the one who does everything on his tank.

Congrats!!

Jan, as always, you demonstrate an exemplorary example to reefing skills:), your methods are are clearly workable:worship:

However, do you believe that we should continue as current, or MAYBE start a move to lower carbon footprint tanks? The community at large have demonstrated that GREAT tanks can be achieved with excellent maintainance schedules and adequate power consumption.

To set a new frontier, would it be worthwhile to consider what can be achieved with smarter systems? we KNOW that we can build smarter systems, both in terms of effiiciecy and results:thumbsup:. SO why not set a new frontier and benchmark rather than continue in the existing format?

It's not about available finance, but more focused on knowledge and progression, a good thing I hope you will agree:).

DO YOU believe you could 'tune' your system to achieve the great results and consume less power? what would/could you change?

Finally, I have one pertinent question to you.

Do you REALLY KNOW/BELIEVE THAT THE POTIONS THAT YOU ADD TO YOUR SYSTEM ARE A DEFINITE AID to the extent that without them the results could not be achieved without simple water changes?

It's a loaded question, but it's sincerely asked in a Socratic sense :). It's been disucussed to death, but i'd really like to hear your informed view.

Whichever way one may wish to consider things, there is nothing as pleasing as tantalising beauty, more so in the mind that that of the eye that is driven by the mind!

Have I been reading too much of the Guardian:laugh:

JWRE
24-04-08, 06:40
Hi Reefclown, thanks, interesting point. I am sure these results ( or better ) are also possible without all the secret potions. My friend Martin has a beautiful aquarium with only water changes and very minimal equipment.

For my tank I know that colours and growth get less when I stop dosing. I think the system is hooked to the bottles. Maybe if I start up a new system in the future I will do it in a less complicated way but for now I enjoy adding all this stuff and see how the animals react. ( by the way it tastes great in the coffee too :-) )

As you probably know my experience with reeftanks is limited and I want to stick to this method for a while until I really get a feel for this great hobby. That will be the moment for experimentation.

Hi,

I'm having problems viewing this month's TOTM!? When I click on the link it says ....Bandwidth Limit Exceeded....and goes on to say that the owner of the site has reached their bandwith limit?

What's going on? Has anyone else had this problem?

There is a bandwidth issue and we're aware of it! It's the second time in it's history that TOTM has hammered the .com server - one would assume this is due to the videos as they're by no means small. When the problem has been resolved we'll update the thread.

Cheers

I have cleaned the thread.

Please post your comments / questions REGARDING THIS TANK in this thread.

Any other concerns / issues can be addressed by PM to the TOTM coordinator, mods or posted on Site Feedback for discussion. This is really not the place for them.

Thanks in anticipation for your cooperation. :)

Stunning tank!

Quite question, how do your hawkfishes get on with your shrimps as I've always been lead to believe you can't keep them in the same tank as the hawkfishes will eat the shrimps. Have you had any shrimp losses at the hands (fins!) of the hawkfishes?

Hi, thanks !

This hawkfish is a very bad shrimp hunter or I feed him too much. I have had no shrimp losses to my little red friend.

Thanks a lot Chris ! I changed the ATI power modules because there was something wrong with the starter. The bad thing with the ATI power module is that it is difficult to replace this part ( it has to go back to the factory ). Funny thing is that the exact same problem occured on the other module. ( within a week from each other ) Because I can not leave my animals without light for the time the ATI guys get the lamp back in order ( I have heard that this can take a lot of time with them ) I ordered lamps from Corallen Zucht. I received these within 3 days. :worship::worship: as promissed by Mr. Pohl.
All tubes are now Coral light new generation ( 14.000 K ) except 4 tubes with Fiji purple. The light is now much more blue and I am amazed with the intensity.:eek: I wonder what it will do to the colours. :whistling::dance:
The ATI are going back to Germany. I hope I may receive them back before the end of the century. ;):p

PS I did not do the write up, this was done by a proffesional ;)

What a shame, the tank looks so good with the power mods too, we have had no problems with the units so far, but i do agree that ATI are slow at moving their products smoothly. I know they did have problems with the units in the past, but I know they have changed some of the parts in the units now. I have found that some of our German suppliers are not great at getting products to us.
I hope you get sorted out by ATI soon and i hope the new lights keep the lovely colours you got from the power mods.
Best regards Chris
