View Full Version : what type of lamp do you use?
which lamp do you use? and why? is it the colour of coral growth?
150w BLV 14k.. Used a Coralvue 14k last year. bought the BLV as i'd heard it gives off more of a blue crisper light than the coralvue but I cant tell the difference....
hearing more people using Marine Lux.. May give them a try next halide change...

Have a 14k coralvue 400w. I'm happy with the look and growth. Am trying a 14k 400w BLV next time though. I will be switching lamps soon so I will let you know my thoughts on the BLV. :)

Tried BLV, CV and ML. Next lamp change I'm going back to BLV 10000K (I've added actinic T5s now)
Used to use a BLV 14K, just switched to MarineLux.
Much "blue-er" when first switched on but now I've got used to it and It prefer it.
I use 10,000k Marine Lux with Actinic supplement, gives a nice crisp light:cool:.
Used to use 14,000ks but switched to the 10,000ks to give better growth.
have 2 x 70W 14000k BLV + 2 x T8 actinics. Planning to upgrade in the next few months to a 150W 10000k BLV + T5 actinics.

Marine Lux 10k, had them in 250w and now 400w, both supplemented with T8 Actinics and Aquablue+ T5's.
For looks, if you like a blue tint Marine Lux 14k are very nice, personally I prefer the much brighter 10k's though.

Running a Giessman 150w 14.5K
Nice crisp colour to it, much better than the old aqua medic 10K bulb i was using,
10K much to yellow for my liking
Blv as they have been tested to give the most par along with geisman

remember to reduce your hours as the blv are around 30-35% more powerful per watt than the cv.

Hi Wills
I would be interested to know how you calculated this information ?
'blv are around 30-35% more powerful per watt than the cv'

Hi using the data Sanjay Joshi collected and comparing the 2 spectral graphs.
you should give him some marine lux mate as it will get them going nuts for them in the states

Why is the BLV and Giesemann plot exactly the same? Did Giesemann just re-badge a BLV lamp?
For the record, I use 400w BLV 14k because of their high PAR and long effective life, the lesser consideration is colour that we see, which is a nice crisp white with a hint of blue.

giesemann 'coral' 14500K
as said, nice crisp and bright white.

i know they are very simialr but that doesnt mean they are re badged, but i cant comment as im not sure  the giesemann does out perform the blv on some of the ballasts so i guess they are not the same

Just switched to Reeflux 400W 12K's. Or one anyway and other is Marinelux 400W 14K.
Fitted Arcadia 150W 14k when it came time to replace. Was AM 10k(13K? colour) I was getting much better growth before but was after a bluer look. Still undecided as to keeping the Arcadia, like the colour but need more growth.:scratchhead:
Arcadia, although I dont actually have it running yet.
Xm 10k's 250w, supplimented by 2 x 39w D-D Pure actinic plus

Geisemann 250w 14.5k 'Coral' as that's what came with my pendant ( Geisemann infinity). Advertising blurb also claims that they have a much longer service life than 'other' bulbs. Overall I'm very happy with colour, growth etc but am considering Marine Lux when it comes time to change as a lot of people seem very happy with them and they're half the cost.

I use 3 Arcadia t5s marine daylight blue and two T8 Actinics, with good coral growth
Why is the giesmann lamps not included, in my view their coral lamp is the best.
