I can't compete with the superb quality of Clippo's garden photography but thought I'd continue the non squeamish thread here now such pics have a dedicated area.

Its just turning into the new season for us here, but instead of being cooler as you may think of this as our winter, its hotter but less humid and no or little rain. Soon there will be a constant breeze and every house with kids (that means practically every house) will have kites flying from it, there will be kite festivals throughout Bali I will try to get to one and take pics.

With the dry season comes large numbers of insects the most predominant being dragonflies in many different colours and sizes (thank god as we would be overrun with mosquitos otherwise.

I love my old film based Nikons but I don't like the DX format, on a DX format camera my wonderful 21mm lens becomes a rather pitiful 32 mm etc.

Yes I know the d3 solves the problem but having a D200 and a D80 has rather put me off Nikon digital cameras for good, though I'll hang onto my old F5.

Thanks Reefbloke :) Yeah its colour is good, what I really want to show is one that's Brilliant White, quite amazing really.

Thats a shame ive been using my D200 for a while now and love it, havnt even felt the need to move to the D300. I guess it just shows it really is all down to personal preference.

Nice pic sanghy - super colours on that dragonfly. Is that around one of the water features in your new house?

Canon's latest "entry level" DSLR, the 450D has a 1.6x field of view crop factor (as have the 300/350/400D) so your 21mm lens would be an even worse 34mm. Think you have to go right to the top of the range (the 1Ds series) and part with a fair few bucks before you see a full frame sensor and get that 21mm back. Perhaps better to buy a 14mm Nikon lens :).

Hmm guess I'd better go back to using film or maybe buy a D3 after all, I have the 10mm Nikkor nice lens tbh :) I don't get too interested in technical stuff as a result I got the idea that all the Canon DSLR's were full format.

Aye John its on a lotus bud in the pool surrounding the statue of Dewi Saraswati. Not something I've seen in he UK but here at this time of year we get swarms of dragonflies flying at about 4 meters above the ground. Kids catch them by waving around lengths of bamboo with the top 0.5 meter covered with honey, the draonflies stick to the honey. You can catch hundreds in an afternoon and flash fried they make a tasty meal :)

Thanks Ross.

Yuyud one of my nephews caught it Bash using a noose of plastic raffia attached to some bamboo, so I guess he's responsible.

I should add that Yuyud released the snake in a nearby rice field not long after I took the pics. We Balinese revere snakes as the guardians of Dewi Siva so would never kill them, conversely Yuyud is Jawanese and in Jawa they drink snakes blood and eat the meat, but I forbid him to make sate of this one :)

Some great pics there Sanghy, you obviously have some great subject matter right on your doorstep.

BTW, you don' have to go all the way up to the 1 series Canon's for a full fame sensor. You can get the 5D for half the price instead (or just wait for the new version due out some time soon).

Fantastic Dragonfly although the snake makes me a little scared of paradise!

The snakes are fine as long as you leave them alone, they kill vermin which is very useful.
