Managed to scan these old photos of both sets of my Grandparents weddings onto my pc the other day. Thought you might like to have a look. Has anyone else got some really old pictures they would like to share.

Grandma & Grandad Dodd 1922.

Blimey a real blast from the past.I was looking through some old pictures myself the other day, might have to get some scanned up.
You just have to love photography and how it freezes these moments in time.

Got a couple more from even earlier. Grandma Mac is second from right, sitting at bottom.

Is it just me? But the clothes in the 1921 wedding picture seem much more modern than those in the 1922 picture.

is it just me or do old photos like this scare the s*** out of you, especially the generic expressions of the time ?

Put colour on the 2nd wedding shot, and would think it was a modern photo,or is it just me.

This is a project being run in the village my parents live in. They are collecting all the photos they can and trying to find out who is in them. It is an interesting project especially when you turn up pictures of relatives that you don't have pictures of yourself!

A similar project was run in the village my mother is from in Spain and they got funding for it. The outcome was a really lovely book giving a history of the village.

Re fashions, both look right to me. It was common for people to get married in Sunday best, the wedding dress as we know it now wasn't that common until post war. The gown style wedding dress I think only dates back to Victorian times. My guess would be the Dodds had more money perhaps?

I think you are right Rich. The Dodd wedding does look to have been a much grander affair with the more elaborate dresses. Also the fact that there are four bridesmaids.

What makes me smile is that in those days having your photo taken was considered a very special event, whereas today we just take it for granted.

Thankfully we don't have photos taken with the corpse at funerals anymore, which was also very common in the early days of photography!
