It needs to be cheap, robust, small, have video with sound. Not bothered about use for amazing pics, just pics in pubs, nights out, in town etc etc.
Need something to go where my dSLR won't go.
Fire away.
How about one of these, don't know what they are like from experience but they are beer proof and drop proof.

Crikey Claude think you are gonna be hard pushed to find one at that price that will give you adequate quality pics even with loads of PP.Ideally id look at the Canon G9 but at 300 quid i guess thats way out of your price range. My uncle just brought a samsung s860 from Argos for 59 quid,he seems happy with it but he is easily pleased.
Maybe look at for a second hand fugi bridge camera like you had before?

fuji is too big, i just need a cam for beer shots/candid quick pics, nothing to write home about. Vid function is quite important (porbably moreso than the cam function), i miss my old vid function.
i love my Fuji F40 for pub/pocket work. it's a bit above the price range youv'e speced but well worth it. it's what i carry when the SLR's just to big and will get 90% of the shots you want. it's also got an AF illuminator which makes it great for dark situations. It's a big step up from a camera phone.

Anyone had any dealings with Casios Exilim range or Panasonics Lumix range?
I tend to go for Sony's for pub/going out pics. They do quite well in low light without flash. Girlfriend had a casio and all the pics would be incredibly grainy without flash...
Not sure what you would get for 30-40 quid tho!

Don't go touch the Casio!...images without flash are grainy as hell and with the flash people all look like they just got kicked in the face...

i've been checking out the sonys, nearly bought a cybershot for a decent price, but i'm put off by the memory stick, would like to keep it SD if poss
one thing to watch out for... the old sony cybershots used to be very slow to start up... you will miss all the action before the camera was ready to take a shot. The newer models are much better and my current cyber T2 is awesome but its not within budget
despite advice, i've gone with a casio (don't they make calculators?)

it's a Exilim EX-Z70
Picked it up for £60 new, a bit over my price range, but it does unlimited video at 30fps, which for me is the most important thing (as i now don't have video after selling the finepix S5600)
i used to have an exilim, I quite liked mine, i know some complain about compact cams picture quality but i kinda think the opposite alot of the time. I'm amazed something so small can take pics so good.
I have a small fuji now, i have to say i think it's better only because it's better at higher iso's & i use my compact mostly in the evenings. I wouldn't let it bother you though there's not enough in it to worry about.
