View Full Version : copperbands
how long have you succsefully kept a copperband, i only ask because i hear a lot of horror stories.
my little beauty has been with me for 5 months (really healthy):)
also mention if its still alive.
I've had two, the first one was a real tiddler and was doing brilliantly for over 12 months until he tried to squeeze between a rock and a powerhead intake :-(. I replaced him immediately with an adult specemin who lasted a couple of months then just suddenly stopped eating, turned grey and died. To be honest I don't know if the first one had been able to feed off the rockwork until he died and when the new one went in there was just no food left or not, but they are such a great fish I won't be trying another one.
had mine over 12 months nowv and the previous owner had it 18months.one of the more aggressive feeders in my tank, happily:D loves nori:confused:
Tried copperbands 3 times in the last 10 years and can't get them acclimitised. I have kept a lot fish over the years and never had any problems apart from the copperbands
Should the pole be has anyone kept a copperband close to their natural wild life span in captivity?
I've kept them in the past probably 18 months max but haven't kept one for over 10 years as the poor life expectancy hasn't improved over that period unlike other difficult species.
still going strong after 6 strong months, stunning fish eating like a pig loads of charactor hope to keep for years going in my 7 footer the weekend.

Had mine just over a year now, it seems to be doing really well. My first attempt with one was some years ago but I lost it inside of a year.
I've had one for just over 12 months now. It's never eaten anything I've given it - just spends the day picking the rockwork.
I have 150kg of live rock - 100kg in the display and 50kg in the sump. Every couple of months I swap 50k between the sump and tank. There's no other fish in the system that live off the rockwork so the copperband get it all to itself :)
Looks fatter now than it did when I bought it, though who knows how things will pan out.

Nice work what are your tank specs and what diet do you use?
he's quite partial to mysis. but he likes mysis, spirulina brine, omega 3 brine, Angel & butterfly food, chopped prawn, whole and chopped cockle and Krill. He wont take any flake foods or small cyclopeze/plankton/lobster eggs sized food. He also doesnt like Krill if it's too big I have to buy the chopped small variety. He grazes the rocks all day and is quite partial to the odd bristleworm.
system is a 36x20x24 running chaeto over a DSB in sump. more details in sig.. :D
Amazing, I think you must have the record on UR
never managed to keep one for more than 6 months, will never ever buy another one as that is to short a time for me to morally accept.
Had mine over 3 years, feeds from hand, constantly knipping over rockwork, I have never seen in stop. Do they sleep??
Is it fair to buy a fish that will be dead in such a short time, as far as i am concerned its one fish i walk past in all lfs's,which is a shame as they are stunning to watch but £20.00 squid in my pocket for another coral.
