Equipment tip
#1 - Forgotten your tripod? Keep a 1m length of string handy.
Set your camera to have a 2 sec delay (to reduce vibration from pressing the button). Tie ends of string together and put around your neck. Put both thumbs into the loops, hold your camera and tuck in your elbows and push out hard, take a deep breth and hold it, press the shutter button whilst breathing out. This gives you reduced shake significantly

please add your own to the list :)

Paul,

A variation on your theme... tie the string with a loop on each but ensure that it is long enough to reach from the ground up to the height of your lens.

Pop one end loop over the lens and the other over the tip of your shoe. When taking a shot simply pull against (not too hard mind you) the string to increase stability.

You can also do this with a tripod in high winds.

Always wrap the neck strap around your hand if you take the camera off your neck, easily dropped!!!

don't miss a good photo by just thinking 'it won't turn out well'

snap away, if it's poo, then its poo, delete it, ( do it on the comp, displays dont often do them justice) some of the best shots you get are ones where you don't realise its going to be anything special.:)

For SLR users - Buy a lens reverse adapter for cheap but acceptable macro shots...

If shooting fish, get the eye in focus. Even if the rest is out of you dof you will still get a half sensible result.
