As above.IE not turned off at the mains, just rely on RO taps?Should it be?:thanks:

I use an auto shut-off kit from RO Man, works a treat. Then I turn off a tap between the DI pod and my storage butt so that the auto shut off valve doesn't re-start the system until I want it to, so I can draw off small amounts for kalk etc.
Only turn off at the mains when I'm replacing filters etc.

I turn mine off at the mains, but I use little taps on the waste and product pipes so mines is always under pressure.

Would it not be better to run a Poll on this with a few options.

Just a thought :)

Mine is only connected to the mains when I need to use it. Otherwise, I just close the taps on the lines to keep the membrane wet.

yes, i leave mine pressurised.
you need to ensure the membrane is kept wet when not in use, if it dries out then it can shorten its life.
so taps should be fitted to all outputs as well as the input

Same as muzzy.

I leave mains on and turn off taps on input and both outputs (ro and waste).
I also check daily that the system is pressurised.

I use a needle valve to tap into cold water tap. I was advised these are not meant to be turned on and off constantly. Dont know if this is true though!

I leave mine on all the time with the outlet below water level and do not worry about the waste but must admit mines working reghualy during the day to do automatic top ups ect.

Thanks guys,I also heard the pipe piercing taps shouldn't be turned on and off.Although I do turn mine off as the taps don't seem to robust and I don't want to flood indoors,I can do that already doing water changes :laugh:I have taps on inlet and outlets that get turned off to keep it wet inside the chambers.I try to run mine twice a week to keep it flushed through.I always run it for a minute or two through the flushing valve before use.Al

I do leave mine pressurised, using ro-taps on the outputs, but also have an ro-tap on the mains in, which I turn off.
The pipe piercing tap I leave on all the time, except when I am on holiday during the coldest part of winter.

I leave mine pressurised , the waste keeps the Pond topped up nicely, but will check out the ROman Auto shutoff I think for the Winter

Hi Al

I leave mine presurised (from the mains) and use the RO-Man shut off kit on my resevoir, I also have a T piece with a tap and a second shut off kit (just the float) for a 50Lt water change container.

Whilst I keep mine pressurised. I had never evin thought of letting the waste top up the pond. Top idea, thanks

Hmm

Not sure about keeping the pond topped up with concentrated dirty water.

Just leave mine pressurized with the RO man shut off kit.

A question for those who leave the unit pressurisd-Do you get a tds reading when you run off the first litre or so??

That reminded me to top up my top up drum,Thanks Haydn.Just run off 1/2 litre and had a reading of 5 but I do have 8 mtrs of hose going across the dining room when I top up my reservoir that has old water in it.After 1/2 litre it's now 0 again

i have a 'T' and tap on the pipe between the RO membrane and DI chamber,
and always run off a few liters of product water from the RO before letting it go to the DI chamber, which is valved off on the outflow.

I have my RO automated, so that when the reservoir gets low it kicks on the RO. First thing that happens is that it sends to drain the output from the membrane for the first three minutes, that gets the water than has undergone TDS creep and can come out at close to 400ppm. After three minutes it then gets sent through the DI stage and into the container.

When the container is full it closes the float valve, a high pressure sensor on the membrane output senses the closed output and turns off the system.

The system is driven via relays controlling solenoids on the drain and the two output lines. The unit is pressurised all the time, I do have a manual ball valve on the supply hose before the pump in case I need to shut it down for some reason.

I found that total dissolved solids in terms of the amount of DI resin used up was as much in the first 30 seconds as in the rest of the first hour. I have the purge set to three minutes as by then it normally has dropped down to 4ppm.

I have another tee after the DI stage, I can put the line into a barrel, turn on the ball valve on that line and push a button to start the fill. The three minute timer is automatic so even that route only gets good water. To finish I just turn off the ball valve on the line to the barrel, but the unit will only stop when all outputs are satisfied, so it will continue until the float valve in the reservoir is also shut.

Yes, as already said, I get a very high initial TDS reading which takes a few minutes to drop down to a 'normal' level. I run this to waste before allowing it through the DI resin.
