View Full Version : Which Nitrate test kit do you use?
Just curious really as to which Nitrate test kits everyone uses and what experiences you have had with them whether good or bad.
I have 2, the API and the Salifert one, both easy to use. The salifert one can be difficult to read if you dont get the right light whereas the API is easy to read but, unless you have 0 nitrates can be quite a big jump between colours (0-5, 5-10,10-20, 20-40 etc).
I was going to do a poll but I cant figure out how to do it:o

:laugh: Just what I was going to do.Neither can I:whistling:Any body?
I use the API test kits for Nitrite, Nitrate,Phos and ammonia, for the rest calc, mag, Kh etc... I use salifert. Find them all quite good.

I use Hagen Master Test kit, it seems to do the trick.
I use the Slaifert test kit, one thing i would personally suggest is once you have a test kit you know is pretty accurate that it is worth sticking with that make.
If you have a base line reading any difference with that kit will hopefully mean you know what your system is doing, if you change from one make to another you could end up with different readings and not knowing where your at.
:)
Hi
Most test kits are fine if your nitrates are below 20ppm. Once you go over that they start to become very inaccurate.
Personaly I use a Pinpoint meter.

Is that the one reedreams sells? How do you find it? How often does it need calibrating?
i Use Salifert, but make sure they are within there sell by date as I get a worse reading the older the Kit.

Yep thats the one
Instructions say calibrate before every test, although you can get away with less.
I calibrate mine as soon is I don't get the expected reading.
Calibration is very easy though.

Just use Salifert for all tests. Consistent and accurate. Tried others and they had inconsistent results.

No, I meant that I just use Salifert, my bad grammar!

Red sea kit :)
API for nitrate. Salifert all others. Seem okay, except pH for which I have 5 different kits!! and a meter - all seem pretty dodgy.

API for everything...idiot proof although I was a stern test....:D
