Hi Rory - sorry I was blind last night and didn't spot your message. Your order came through fine. I'm not certain at this point why the checkout didn't work when your wife tried. I need to check if you have a preference for Tetraselmis or Nannochloropsis? as I have one Nanno disk in reserve for you. Cheers

Thanks Rory - it was good to catch you on the phone. The Tetraselmis disk has been chosen and sent as more suitable for the inverts you're rearing. Basic setup and rearing instructions are given on the rear of the dish. There's a sticky on our forum for ongrowing the phyto. Cheers

Hi - 3-5 days should be sufficient for the cells to be visibly increasing. I set up a disk yesterday, and poured the rubbed off cell mix into 500 ml culture water earlier this PM - so we compare notes! Don't forget to feed with the nutrient. If you get culture settlement you can shake to resuspend at this stage you're just loking for the algal cells to settle in and multiplying. The aeration won't need to be too gentle at this stage. When it comes to the next stage of expanding the culture (in a few days time) when you pour the culture out you will be able to leave behind any culture debris that may have settled out. Cheers

fugu so its ok to have a few thick floaty bits after about 3 months of doing this and can they just be poured out through a sive etc

Hi Guys - good going. It'll be good practise to work towards replacing your older culture. In most cases sieving shouldn't be necessary (and you'll prob. need a 10-25 micron mesh if you did so), consider stopping the air supply and allow the lumpy bits to settle before pouring the top portion into a new bottle. If you can aim to have 4-6 cultures going you can monitor the quality of the cultures and just retain the best ones for setting up new cultures; the lumpy cultures can be destined for copepod feeding as they'll love the lumpy bits. Best regards

hi fugu the air pump you have sold me has packed in and my phyto has crashed as a result of this.
i have not checked the phyto for 4 days due to being busy.

Hi Rory - if I remember rightly those pumps have a 2 yr guarantee - can you mail back the pump and paperwork and a replacement can be shipped in the meantime. Are there any immediate signs of what failed on the pump? Cheers

Hi Rory - no worries, just get the pump back to us as I'll still like to see it and break down the unit for assessment. If you can scrounge a pump in the meantime until the replacement arrives there's the opportunity to save your culture. Cheers

As a follow up - if you can't scrounge a pump you can consider refridgerating any decent looking remaining culture for storage until the replacement pump arrives. Hope that helps! Cheers

Hi Rory - no worries. Freebie phyto going out this PM to get you up and running again (it's been a good week). If you can try and keep an eye on the cultures a little more often. Have a good w/e. Cheers
