Hi everyone :)

Can I ask those folks that have a Deltec Microreef up and running if they used silicone to secure the tank connector (the bit that connects the pipework in the overflow box to the return to the sump), rather than use the washers that come with the connector?

I have been advised NOT to use the washers as they do not tighten up sufficiently to prevent leaks.

Could I still use the washers, AND use silicone as well? Or should I just use the bare connector and silicon that in place, without the washers?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Ta,
Trig (and I have no idea why everything is underlined!!!)

Don't have one but I've helped a mate set up 2.

He took the washers out and used a thin bead of silicon (aquarium safe of course!).

Ta Kev; I assume that you siliconed both sides of the connector in at the same time, rather than fitting the threaded bit from above into the overflow box and into the hole in the glass, siliconing it to the glass then letting it set, then screwing the nut on the underside of the tank up the threaded bit, then siliconing the nut up to the lower glass section? (bloody 'ell, if you can understand that, then you need a medal...:o)

The tank connector supplied with the Deltec microreef system has been designed to be fitted without using silicone.

You could use silicone if you wanted to but it is not really necessary. All the Deltec sytems are supplied with these tank connectors and we have no problems with them at all.

I have used these connectors on my own tank for many years now and they work really well.

Hope that helps.
