Got to wait until Sept till I allowed to buy one:( But saying that I have got the 70-200m 2.8 IS, to keep me busy.
I iamgine you`ve read but alot of people have probs with filters when fitted to the 100-400, Best to use the hood and bin the filter.
Hope the rain stays off.

Ok, so I didnt get as much time with the new baby as I'd of liked but I did manage to talk it out with me for a quick walk around one of the local reservoirs.

First pic is a 100% crop to illustrate the sharpness/range of this thing. This is taken at ISO100, 400mm, f5.6 @ 1/320th:

Oh, and it's half a mile away!

The following are taken at around 10-15 feet away, again all at 400mm f5.6 and between 1/160th and 1/1000th:

Dave,

Yeah it has IS. Quite useful for the shots above, but I'll mostly be using this lens for motorsport so it'll be off for most of the time.

I actually quite like the push-pull action. It's obviously not as good as a fixed length lens and gets a bit front heavy when fully extended but for speed of use It's actually MUCH better than a twist action.

Bet you can get some decent motion effect with the... 'variable friction one-touch Linear zoom function':D
The lens is on my list of lenses but wont be anytime soon:(

I'm sure I could, but then I think me stood there pumping away at my big one in public might raise the suspicions of the local authorities!
