They're great aren't they! Sometimes see them fly over my house, but never when I've got a camera handy.

Hi Furface,
don't know where abouts in kent you are, but have you been to Eagle Heights at Eynesford. Got an incredible selection of birds of prey there.

Slightly off topic I caught the back end of a TV program last night (Jims farm or something) which included a piece on a Welsh farmer who was feeding and helping to increase the number of red kites in the wild. It looked bloody awesome and I can only assume that this is the same place.

Very nice place for a day out that one:thumbsup:

Strangely enough, red kites were being discussed on the radio this morning, it seems that John Paul Getty was chiefly responsible for reintroducing them back in to many parts of this country some time ago - seems to have worked.

You are correct chris it is Nant Y Arian glad you knew the name because i couldn't remeber or spell it lol. The KItes are fed daily @ 3 just 10 miles east of aberyswyth on the A44. Not sure what they are being fed looked like bread to me and apparantley they have had up to 100.
Fantastic to see and will defibatley be going again with a longer lens next time.
There are laso some fantastic trails with some jaw dropping views .

wow lovely pics. It's nice to see them doing so well. Red kites used to be more numerous than crows once, but farmers and game keepers shot them thinking they were responcible for killing livestock ie, phesants and grouse etc. But the red kite is purely a carrion eater, they don't have the strenth in their feet and legs to kill prey of any size. I'm glad someone had the thought to reintroduce them. Stunning.

They re-released loads on Christmas common in Oxfordshire around 5 years ago, while I was at RAF Benson there was many a Rabbit taken and a few Cats, ...... I would have left a new born in the garden crawling around cause you never know.
