If you want an inexpensive solution but at the sacrifice of a bit of clarity in your macro mages, I cant recommend a reverse lens adapter enough - for a few quid you can get really really close.

thanks paul will look into that

Or a set of extension rings. Kenko/Jessops etc make reasonable ones.
Other than that you're looking at a dedicated Macro lens. So either Canon, Tamron or Sigma.
Ultimately the dedicated lens will obviously be a greater outlay, but you get what you pay for.
Hi mrfishy, are we related :D
Reversing rings and extension tubes are excellent in the right conditions and I consider them one of my options rather than an alternative, they do take a bit of practice to use correctly though but thats part of the fun.
For a macro lens I use a Tamron 90mm, but if you have the extra cash get the Canon 100mm, or if you are really keen and have the budget get an MPE-65.

100mm canon macro is the mutts for me and can be bought off fleabay for a very reasonable price.
I have the Canon f2.8 100mm Macro and it is excellent
if you go the ext tube/reversing ring route i would get a canon 50mm F1.8 lens to use with them. It has a fast aperture and is pin sharp. all for a bargain £60.
If you get a macro lens the canon 100mm is well worth the extra.
