The Profilux Temperature control uses a Peltier cooler which is highly efficient and will be totally integrated for variable control using a Profilux controller.

This design gives great advantages over conventional heaters and coolers because it is a variable input/output, there is no dead spot or sudden kick in/off like a chiller or heater, the heating and cooling is relational to the temperature.

The unit is of a modular design (single unit pictured below) they will be available in the following sizes. For larger tanks multiple units can be run from one profilux.

Type, l x b x h (mm), Tank size (max.), max. power consumption (provisional)
PTC1, 160 x 120 x 120, 100l, 140W
PTC2, 260 x 120 x 120, 200l, 280W
PTC3, 360 x 120 x 120, 300l, 420W
PTC4, 460 x 120 x 120, 400l, 560W
PTC6, 660 x 120 x 120, 600l, 840W

Unlike conventional heaters and chillers the PTC will run at a variable power consumption dependant on the required cooling/heating required as opposed to being fully on or off, giving the advantage of much better temperature control and efficiency.

The pricing for these units for a limited time will be:

Type, l x b x h (mm), Tank size (max.), max. power consumption, RRP
PTC1, 160 x 120 x 120, 100l, 140W, £349.99
PTC2, 260 x 120 x 120, 200l, 280W, £499.99
PTC3, 360 x 120 x 120, 300l, 420W, £669.99
PTC4, 460 x 120 x 120, 400l, 560W, £799.99
PTC6, 660 x 120 x 120, 600l, 840W, £999.99

We are expecting our first delivery next week, which will fulfil all back orders and allow for a demonstration unit for our dealers to play with. There may be some spare units so if you are interested please register with your retailer.

Nothing is released from GHL without thorough and prolonged testing which all these units have been through.

To demonstrate this, here is the test rig at GHL HQ where all units are going though the final wet test and 100% burn in testing.

The large grey units are the power supplies with short circuits to ensure a 100% burn in test of the Peltier elements.

I can't wait to get my hands on one of these and will be producing a full report running it on my own 6x2x2, which due to it's location in the centre of the house can't have a conventional chiller running.

After Parcelfarce losing one of the shipments, we have finally received the first shipment of Profilux temperature controllers (PTC). Here is a 4 fan straight out of the box.

I have taken a 6 fan as a demo unit which is currently being installed on my 6x2x2 as a test case, then it will be released to our retailers to trial.

I'll start a separate diary thread as I am sure I am not the only one wanting to know how these shape up!

I will keep a diary even if I can't post updates every day, the data and changes will be recorded.

AHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Posted a big report, copied it just in case something went wrong when posting, added a final picture and stupidly copied the URL removing my backup..... ARRGGGHHH

So you will have to await for the report in full.

In brief, 6x2x2 with large sump and fuge normally fluctuates 26.5 to 29 with 3 x 400w halides, as you can imagine!

After the second trial day I replaced my noisy sump and tank hood fans with a propellor breeze 5 fan mounted in the hood, and the PTC with it's wiring fans has kept it in these temperatures! unbelievable to me!

I'll re write the full report after the weekender... gutted I lost it!

Steve,

any further information available on these? How's yours been running on your system at home, as it sounds like a similar set up to mine (although you are running more lighting than me!)

I'll post a report shortly, with my wife being ill, and staff on holiday I haven't had chance yet. I am still impressed with the units, they sure are built well and do a great job. With the latest firmware I am testing at the moment you can control the capacity much better, rather than have it working 100% to keep it within 0.1C which just isn't required for our tanks.

steve i know this post was in 2008 but what happened with the report? Do you still run the unit? I'am looking into these, or did they fade as not a good product?
