View Full Version : Canon D450 Macro lens conundrum
Hi
I have just got a Canon D450 camera and am after a decent macro lens as a lot of my photography will require it. I cant afford the MPE-65 but am not sure which is the best out of the Tamron 90mm, Sigma and Canon lenses.
Or is just down to personal choice?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Depends what you want really ,the canon and tammy are on a par for sharpness although the canon 100 has internal focus and a faster and quite auto focus. The sigma is also a great lens but doesn't usually score quite as well as the canon and tammy when reviewed. With the use of extension tubes on either lens you can get close to about 2:1 ratio without too much agro.
Hi
I have used both Canon and Sigma 105 macro's and to be honest in actual real time use there was little if anything to chose between the two.
The latest canon does have a USM focus motor but as you are not realy going to use auto focus when doing macro its of little benefit.
Canon, Sigma or Tamron whichever you go with you won't be disapointed with the results.

True about the auto focus being of little use for macro but I use my macro lens for a multitude of things.I find my canon takes superb portrait shots and with it's 2.8 aperture it's great for weddings etc where the 100mm is very useful.
Thanks for your advice guys - I have not considered extension tubes, I know nothing about them so will have a read on the web.
Cheers

Hi Sam,
It may be worth looking into the Raynox range as well. I use the Raynox 250 and love it.
