View Full Version : Canon RC-5 remote release function
I've got a Canon RC-5 remote release but it only seems to operate the camera, a 350d, if set to timer release. It won't activate the shutter in normal mode.
Is this a camera setting or a feature not available on the 350d.
How about the 40d as I'm considering one and want the remote release function.

Yep the RC-5 only really works as a portrait style release and you will only have the option of 2 or 10 sec delay in self timer mode as you state.I think the RC-1 has the capability for immediate shutter release but you will have to check.
For my 40d i just went for a cheapo wired release as there is no Ir on the 40d.You could buy a hahnel grip as that includes Ir capability and the remote if you so wished.

I got my cheapo release from 7 day for my 40d,the button releases the shutter and af's as you press it(2 stage) or you can lock the button off for long exposures in bulb.It was compatible RS-80 N3 release as far as i can remember and was about a fiver.
