Hi

Is there a ratio between total culture volume and consumption to ensure regeneration.

For example if I maintain 3 cultures of 3l and draw 1l from each per week will this ensure the pod losses can recover within each culture?

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve - from our early work with 5 litre cultures we easily took 1 litre per week and this will equate to approx 600+ml from your 3 litres. If the pods and rots are happy and you're refreshing the water, feeding daily, and temp is stable between 20-26 deg C the cultures should be happy with this harvest rate. If you happy to just harvest mature copepods you can harvest with a 250 micron strainer and this way you can return the juvenile pods for ongrowing. A 120 micron strainer will catch mature rots and semi-mature pods. A 53 micron strainer will catch most pods and most rots. Some of our customers have used 25 and 53 micron strainers to grade out sub 53 micron rots but this is a little extreme. Cheers

Hi Fugu
Do you have any small pieces ( 30mm sq) of 53 micron mesh to build a filter to prevent contamination of the culture from the main tank?

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve - no worries. Please forward your address and confirmation of dimensions just as a reminder, thanks.

Hi Steve - did the mesh arrive safely and have you fitted it? Cheers, FUGU
