Looking at a few lenses recently and this one seems to be popping up in everyone's kit bags. Is this as it's so cheap? Or just because it's a great lens?

I'm interested to see some images taken with it, and maybe the settings used if possible.

I know it's a portrait lens but are there any of you who use it for other things as I've read it can be quite good when used with extension tubes - not something I'd necassarily want to do but just for info.

Cheers guys,

good lens for the price - I used mine for fish shots, portrait stuff, stitched landscapes mainly. Managed to smash it to pieces recently though (who says Canon build quality is always good!).

for- great prime optics for price
1.8 aperture
Price
Pic quality
Against- built and feels like it's made by fisher price
Easily broken
Slow and noisey af

For the money it's a great lens that can produce super images even with it's questionable build quality

Had mine for a few years, mainly use it for low light indoor stuff of the kids and where flash isn't allowed.

Not the greatest shots ever but here are a few, the turtle was through curved glass, so wasn't expecting anything too sharp

All taken with the 30d
