View Full Version : Corals suitable for seahorse tank
Will be setting up a seahorse tank this weekend! Any one receommendations on suitable corals?
I've got the usual stuff that I can frag off from my main tank:
1. Mushrooms
2. Finger coral
3. Zoas
4. cabbage
Really after some suitable lps? Or anything really colourful?
nothing that stings so thats lps corals you could have some nice gorgs and some random softies i would ask other more expirienced seahorse keepers about lps as i have never seen this done so i would not know of a type.
colourful what about some neon green toadstools or some gorgonians they come in reds and yellows.
i wonder if sponge would be ok maby some one could coment on this
I've got a sun coral in my horse tank, apart from that just mushrooms. Have tried toadstools but they are not too happy with the low flow :(
If you want LPS, choose carefully - none which sting ;)
Yes, I know lps sting. Not sure about SPS either.
But thanks for the advice as above, it has given me more thought!
Anyone else?
I have in my Seahorse Tank a couple of Gorgs one is a nice yellow colour and the polyps are white and a pink Gorg and appart from that I have some Green and some Red Caulpera.
As mentioned most softies will be suitable, mushies zoa's and pallys, gorg's though i find the lower flow can often be a problem with these,
I've also had sun coral's and cup coral's do well in seahorse tanks.

Didn't know it was there until stripping the tank down but I found tons of it behind and within the rockwork, it could have been there for ages i've no idea but it never caused any problems anyway, Some really bright colours aswell, yellows purples reds and even a blue, unfortunately it all died off as soon as the air touched it.
Ah Simon! Great advice as ever! I was hoping that you would reply!
Ok, will follow your tips and get some photos up and running...
Thanks again.

i havegot red bamboo in my tank which gives lots of colour and somewhere to hitch butwhat the seahorses really like are snake polyps which they all hitch on and it is strong enough for hem to hang upside down from when feeding and when they are having fry.they also love feather dusters and coco worms
gorgonians need good flow imo can't see them surviving for long in a seahorse tank
