Mixed aragonite/oolite to a depth of 2inch max.

Oolite across 9/10ths and the last 1/10th (at one end) large coral gravel. This allows me to run my powerheads in the old washing machine style without kicking up the really fine stuff on that end of the tank where the major flow hits the end panel and creates an undertow back across the sand bed.

does nobody have problems with the sugar size sand getting blown about?

aragonite live sand

Aragonite, with a bit of larger grain thrown in, to about 2" max.

The larger grain rises to the top which helps keep the fine stuff in place, plus, the bacterial films that eventually form tend to bind the substrate

Argonite sand but only a small dusting as deep sand beds are not advised for ULNS so its more for decoration.

Yeah I did, hence the larger size substrate where the greatest flow is down onto the sand bed.

1" deep made of mostly live oolite plus some natural live fine sand (the one that contains tiny shells)

Mix of sugar sized and Fiji Pink. I was using sugar sized only but it was moving around too much. I've since mixed in some Fiji Pink and although it still gets pushed around, it's a lot less.
