Just curious to see what other people pay for there electric with reef tanks on the go, so here goes.
Region wales
average electric bill with.
55 gallon tank. is £440 per quarter :thanks:
How do you know what the regional average is without asking everyone in the area what their bill is - your tank doesn't represent the average, only what the bill is for your tank (oh, your doing something wrong if your leccy bill is £440 per quarter, mines about a quarter of that for a 80gal system....)

what?
you pay £110 or so per qtr, thats less than £40 per month?
do you live in a mud hut?

I am not saying I never used the power/gas, just that they screwed up the bills, new build housing scheme and all the meter numbers were messed up.
Just sucks that I have to pay £280pm thats all

Wow, thats sone quarterly bill. I take it we are just talking about the system electricity use only and not the whole bill. If so mines about 50 quid a month running a 1250l system and all that goes with it!
HI, my quaterly bill is £125, 80gallon tank twin 150 halides,heater,2 Tunzes 2 54w t5 actinics and thats it:D oh and a girlfriend that uses hair straightners (probably dearer than my tank )
Tank bill is around £35, household leccy about the same again, so around £70-80 a month - but the total bill again isn't indicative of an average because it doesn't take into account house size, family size, other hobbys or jobs that drain the leccy etc etc so a bit pointless IMO.....
1100ltr system 3 bed semi in derby,£190 a month, gas and leccy,if i dint have the tank i reckon it would be 80quid a month, but hey what ya gonna do?

3 bed semi, and 850ltr system.
electric £70 a month all in, and i'm £150 in credit for the coming winter.
with southern electric.
it would have been a lot more,
but to offset the cost of the electric when i set my tanks up a year or so ago, i replaced over 10 - 4x 50w GU10 halogen spot light fittings with various low wattage energy efficient light fittings and lamps.....
as the rest of the family light the house up like blackpool illuminations, so i saved about 2kw per hour there.:D
and fitted timers for the washing machine and tumble dryer, to use the economy 7.

your probably lighting half of yeovil
Mines just gone upto £178 per month.
Was £195/ month, just gone up to £231/month. 310 gal system , 5 bed detatched - south east northants
My elecs £100 a month. Two bed room house me and the girlfriend. I think it's the heat pads and the fact I'm on a prepayment meter. They are a ****** to change.
£120 a month with a perc 120 in a 4 bed with wife and 2 kids

just had a statement in, and it went up to £90 a month....:(
i'll blame it on the missus using all those xmas lights......
couldn't possibly be the tank...very energy efficient...:whistling:
its worth people checking out the latest prices in their area, as british gas click 6 (previously click5) was always the cheapest where I am, i did a search about the other day and found that npowers web account is now the cheapest so i switched yesterday.
put aside an hour and take a look at this, it should save you money hopefully - http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/home-insurance
not only is the account i switched to a fair bit cheaper i also get £30 cashback by signing up through moneysupermarket
Last bill - £210 per Quarter, for a 600l tank plus house. :)
If it stays like that i will be a very Happy Man.
Oh yeah, Southeast.

400 gallons of water slopping about by 2 10,000 sequence pumps, 2 OR3500 returns, a Deltec 902, triple 250 mh and a monthly elec bill of £220.
Seriously thinking about LEDs and a cone skimmer.
Hehehe...all you Halide users.
I worked out that my reef to be (one day...its taking forever) will be about £300/annum principly because I will be using LEDS (thanks Steve and Bo). :)
Well I assumed heater stats would not be running 24/7 and so used 8hours/day as a guess.
Just got electric bill in £527.00!!
Lat bill was estimated , but didn't think it was that far out. I've only got a little tank (125l), must be the tumble dryer etc.

 agree but didnt like to say
sorry guys but its true :p
If your huge bills arent down to your halides maybe it is not your aquariums that are causing the big bills? ... then again maybe you all have multiple tanks?
Probably a good idea to check Uswitch, if you have not change supplier in a few years, i was given a quote suggesting i could save £180.

I might have some good news for you guys, i had a visit from a rep from scottish power today and he said energy prices should be coming down this year. (fingers crossed)
I have electric and gas meter keys..... Just lower them;)
4 bed det, staffordshire, one child and one very big child (wife). Most of my household lighting is based on LED and energy saving bulbs and stuff. Elec bill per quater on average £190.
Tank size 6 x 2.5 x 2...... not yet running.....
expected elc bill £10 trillion......lol

Hi,
was checking prices to get a gas meter and account set up last week for someone I support and was amazed that they charge extra per day for card and key top ups. Think she got the amounts slightly wrong, but was quoted 16p per day on one of them and 39p (which I think she got wrong) a day for the other - sorry not got info at hand which was which.
Quite a bit extra over the year:mad:
I usually pay 100 a month on a prepayment meter. When I called to change to direct debit they said straight away based on my usage it would only be £60. I know direct debits can be a bit off but it's bloody awful that just getting rid of that meter saves me £40 a month already on just the electric!

Thats great news for you!! Big, big difference and can't see how they can warrant taking that amount of money from people who pay up front, should be giving them a discount in my opinion.

Wholesale energy prices are falling fast, so the savings should filter down to us sometime this year - hands up any suckers who signed up to a long term fixed tariff at a rip-off rate?

I posted at the time that British Gas were advertising their 3 year fixed price deal because they knew prices were unlikely to go any higher, they didn't do it for our benefit!
