Okay, so I get my Profilux Plus II out of the box. The first thing I look at getting it automate - water level.
A quick check of the level sensor prices:
Optical level sensor (cos they don't get affected by snails) - £47.59
Plexiglass holder - £13.55
Optical sensor mounting bracket - £2.70
Total - £63.84

So.... how many Profilux users are using something else to automate top-ups??? Alternatively, are all those bits actually required? Look forward to hearing what owners of these systems use...

Ian I use 3 of the floaty type

Much cheaper and I never ever had a problem in years of use with both Tunze osmolator and AQ.

One level sensor triggers a powerhead for top ups, the other 2 are used for alerting me of either high levels in sump or not enough top up water.

Do I need the holder and mounting bracket for each sensor though? I couldn't find any pictures of these bits so it's difficult to visualise just what exactly I need.

All depends.

You defo need the Level Sensor fastener for each (pl-lf-s12 or s8) depending on optical or floaty.

You need the plexi glass bit when the sensors are in different locations. (Pl-LF-base) eg. I have 3 sensors but only use 2 bits of plexi glass, as 2 sensors are in the sump, they share the plexi, then where my other sensor is in my shed, that needed another peice of plexi.

This thread has a list of bits needed to build the full optical and float switch level sensor arrangement.

Thats the same setup I have, except I haven't even figured how to calibrate the opti sensor lol!
