Hi photographers,

Which of these is better in your opinion?

Canon EOS 1000D Digital SLR Camera (incl EF-S 18-55mm IS f/3.5-5.6 non USM Lens Kit)

or

Nikon D60 Digital SLR Camera - Black (AF-S 18-55 DX II VR Lens Kit)

i have found both for £330 inc, and they seem to be very similarly specified. Both get good reviews, although I heard the nikkon lens id better but the cannon body has the motors for cheaper lenses. So i am not sure.

Any advice appreciated

Without getting too techy i think you would be happy with either to be honest. As for lens quality then it depends what lens you are buying.I wouldnt personally say that Nikon lenses were better quality especially if you are looking at high end lenses of both manufacturers.
Obviously lens choices for the d60 must be of the af-s /internal motor type if you want to retain AF but the VR on that kit lens may be invaluable if you use the camera in low light.Wont really help for sport shots though if thats what your into.

Just noticed that the Canon includes an I.S lens, pretty much of a muchness then.

Go and hold them both and see which "feels" better, because to be honest there's not a great deal between the two in which case it'll come down to ergonomics and which menu system you find easiest to use.

as Nath says how it feels is important. if you are looking for second hand lenses however there is more canon stuff availible on ebay due to canon having higher sales overall and better backwards compatibility.
