Please could someone tell me exactly how to enrich newly hatched brine shrimp for feeding to baby seahorses and what is the best enrichment product to use.

Hi,if the baby brine are under 12 hour's old, they have a yolk sac on then, and this is when they are at their most nutriitious,so don't need enriching.
After 12 hour's,they use up the sac,so the best thing for enrichment, would be live phytoplankton.
This contain's HUFA which is perfect for seahorse's.
But do not rely on this for a main food,BS should be a supplement, unless it's for babie's growing on.
HTH,
Julie.

Thanks Julie. We are feeding the babies on rotifers and copepods also but someone on another forum told me that we are supposed to enrich the brine shrimp before feeding it to them. We didn't know how to do this as they didn't explain how to do it or what to enrich them with when questioned. The babies are less than a month old at the moment. What you have said makes sense. Thanks.

I think you can also use Selcon (But you'd have to wait for some more experienced reefers to confirm this!).

Hi Kev

I think I've heard of this before but could only find it online to buy from America. I wonder if this would be any good for enriching frozen mysis and brine shrimp for our adult seahorses. We use Lipovit at the moment and that seems to be fine but I'm not an expert so would welcome any useful comments. I don't know which is the best enrichment to use.

Thanks for the offer, we've got DTs and phyto feast but as soon as the shrimp is hatched it goes in with the baby seahorses. Could we put some phyto feast in the water with the baby seahorses and brine shrimp do you think?

I'd be more inclined to raise extra shrimp and give them a day or two with phyto feast, but not too much ,you know how potent that stuff is !
