Hi,be lovely if they breed.
You lucky thing,getting a pair !
Round my way, they only sell them now and again.
Saw a tiny one today, but normally all you see are single's or same sex.
Great pic's,
Julie.

Very cool little fish and nice photos too.

I had a pair that bred regularly a few years ago. Will be looking out for another pair in due course.

They were TMC bred, and there's 4 of them in the tank. Two seem to be showing signs of courtship, but that might be wishful thinking. They are still quite small about 1½ - 2 inches in length.

John, I'll be tapping into your experience and knowledge if I do get lucky with a pair.

Got them at a Maidenhead near me.

Thanks for the comments.

At 2" they're not that small - adults are not a huge amount bigger. Males can be identified from the nodules on the snout - something I suspect you know judging from your macro of the male's snout. I think the males can be quite feisty with other males - how big is your tank?

Interested to hear they are TMC bred. Are you 100% sure? The fry are really tiny - like glass splinters so I suspect will be very hard to raise!

I never tried to rear any so my expertise is more than limited in that respect.

100% that they came from TMC, the shop only deal with them, only the LFS's word that they were bred there.

The tank isn't that big, but they seem tp have split into two pairs, although the males do chase each other occasionally.

Thanks for the additional info John.

Nice one

Ace little fish - they look great. I have two pairs in a 4' tank, the males chase each other occasionally but no harm done. Good luck with getting them to spawn. If they do keep us posted.

Siren: Most LFS's by me can get pairs in if you order them, might be worth asking?

Hi Sailfin,
Thank's for that.
I would love to have them again.
I had one on it's own before,a male, within a week of adding a cleaner shrimp,i had lost it to stress.
Won't make the same mistake again.
Julie.

Can I ask what the flow is like in your set up?

Cheers

Hi Keith, I'm feeding them on thawed Mysis and Bbrine, soaked in a little tank water and cyclopeeze. They seem to be doing OK, but it's early days yet. I also add thawed lobster eggs or rotifers every couple of days. I include krill as I feed the seahorses and suns, dendrophyllia, cup corals and Duncans at the same time.

It's a red sea max, 130, so quite small, flow is by two powerheads, one original redsea 550lph and 1 maxijet 1200 giving another 1000lph, both have hydor flow deflector attached. Additional flow is provided by a fluval 205 external filter running sponges, phophate remover and filter floss.

Maybe I should start a tank thread.

Your pics of your pipefish are great. Now that I can see the difference between the male and female's snouts from your pics I can tell that I have a female in my tank. I might try to get hold of another one now. I know that males fight but does anyone know if it's okay to have 2 females. I will try to get a male although I'll probably need to take a magnifying glass to the LFS but just in case I end up with a female I did wonder ..... :)
