im looking into buying the APF600 (i was going to just) but im not 100% sure what feed pump to use, firstly is the APF600 input 20 mm but comes with an optional 20/16mm horsetail reducer?
whats the recomended feed for these? ive seen Maxijets being used and 2000ltr ehiem pumps but from what i gather about 800ltrs/h ?
finally what feed pump would you recomend? something like an ehiem?
a quick response would be appriciated
yours
The Apf 600 has a 20mm water inlet feed which is supplied with a reducing hosetail as you have stated.
I would recommend a feed pump of 2000 ltrs. When this pump is installed you can fit an inline tap such as an Eheim or Fluval to regulate the flow if you need to. Deltec do recommend a flow rate through the skimmer of approx 800 ltrs, but when you buy a pump the flow rate quoted is always at zero head height and without any fittings. Once you add fittings and pump water upwards the flow rate will fall somewhat. The 800 ltrs is actual flow through the skimmer, though you can run more.
Deltec supply an installation kit as an optional extra to feed the skimmer with water. This kit comes with an Aquabee 2000 (2000 ltrs per hour).
I used an Apf 600 for many years and found that a 2000 ltr pump was just right for the job. Regarding which feed pump to opt for you can use any one you like as long as it is saltwater safe and is sized at aroung 2000 ltrs. Many people use the Aquabee which is supplied by D-D and Deltec, but the choice is yours. A good retailer will advise you further on pumps available.
Hope that helps.

Just to give you another thought, not that anything really needs to be added to Leighs comments.
I found an Eheim 1250 was just not quite enough to get the water level stable at the bayonet fitting - it would do it after it was cleaned and with a short length of hose without any fittings on it. The 90 degree elbow in the hose originally killed the flow just enough to make it not work.
A lot of it depends upon how you run the skimmer and the relative height of the water being pumped from and the bayonet of the skimmer.
Have you thought about gravity feeding the skimmer from the weir? Only possible in a few circumstances but if you have something like the twin standpipe method running then it can remove the need for the feed pump completely.

Thank you for the indepth exsplanations guys, i thought of plumbing it directly into the the overflow, but how things are set up currently sump wise a feed pump would be the best for my current set up. ah yes i completely forgot about head hight,
