Sailfin

I wish I could help more as I want to sex my Snake Pipefish (which are similar) but don't know how to. This is all I could find. It basically says that Dragon Pipefish are pouch brooders. I presume one has a pouch and one doesn't. I wonder if the male or female has the pouch! http://animal.discovery.com/guides/fish/marine/dragonpipe.html

Sorry, I know this doesn't really help at all.

As with most pipefish i'd imagine the male has the pouch. There is a seahorse/pipefish forum, they may be able to help better. http://forum.seahorse.org/

I've never seen the Dragon Pipefish in real life, only Snakes. They do look lovely though and if I saw any I'd be very tempted to buy them. Actually, probably more than tempted. Why don't we get any in Lincolnshire. :( Where are you from?

Hi , i am in Fleet,Hampshire.
The reason i didn't get them,is because there were 2.
One however, was on the side of a rock, and was breathing really heavily, just didn't look right, while the other one was swimming about, quite happily.
I didn't want to just buy the one,so left it,and haven't had a chance to go back since.
It could just have been stress, where they had only been there a short while, but i didn't want to take the chance.
I think they will still have them though,as they have a small Blue Stripe they have had for quite a few week's.
Only thing is they were really cheap as well.
I might have to ring them, and see if they are still there,as they have been on my mind ever since,i can't forget about them, bless them.
Julie.

Hi Julie

I think you have done the right thing. Be very careful if one was breathing really heavily as I lost a couple of Snake pipes previously and that is what happened before they died. But you never know, they might still be there and if they have been in the LFS for a while they should hopefully be okay. Phone them, then you will know. I know that the Snake pipes have to be kept at a lower temperature and I lost my original ones when the tank temperature went up over the summer. I also had one that just wouldn't eat ... sob. :( I only have one now and it seems okay but I make sure it has plenty of newly hatched artemia to eat.
