mines becoming a royal PITA:( of late

Lenny my blenny is totaly obsessed with food, he NEVER stops eating, he so fat he looks like hes going to pop!

latley hes got super cheeky and given half a chance he will dive in the feeding net and scoff the seahorses shrimp. If i put shrimp on the sandbed hes straight on it before the horses get a lookin.

also ive seen lenny "pecking" at my horses, which they clearly dont appreciate :(.

i know seahorses are slow moving but there is no visable alage on my horses. Hes quite ruff when pecks at them, he does it with such force i seriously thought he had pulled one of my horses dorsal fins off the other day :(, im pretty certain if he did unintentionaly catch a fin he could badly rip it, or more worryingly pull it right off

it really didnt accure to me before putting him in my tank that his behaviour could pose potential issues for my horses :o. im thinking he might have to be rehomed, which is a shame because hes a character and hes clearly really happy.

from my experience with lenny i would advise against housing this tye of blenny with seahorses.

do any of you have any experience with algae blennys being housed with seahorses? is lennys behaviour just typical of algae blennys in general?

thanks all
:)

i wish i had see you post last night, as today i went and got blenny for my seahorse tank today, lights are off so can not see much, but any greif and he out only cost £11.75, my horses cost £45 each.

Hi PP,

Slightly off topic, but I also have an algae Blenny that acts like this although I don't have any horses. He's very rough with dusters and at first with clams although the latter has improved. If he wasn't so hard to catch I would have sumped him by now....

Having watched how these guys feed there is no way I'd put one in with my seahorses. I have one in my fowlr and he's ace but they are so forceful when they eat they could easily do s/h damage.

PP I'm afraid thats just him being normal

im guessing the only way to catch him would be a fish trap??? never used one but hes so greedy i dont doubt for a second if i bait it he will go for it.

triggerfish i hope yours is better behaved than mine, mines been in with the horses about 4 weeks. keep us updated with how yours behaves. like i said im of the opinion this fish really isnt suited to a seahorse tank

ridgeway, off topic i know but just looked at you video link, your tanks lovely mate, a great example of how a trigon can look.

PP,

Thanks for the compliment.

PS: My eleven year old is always asking about horses. The deal I've set is that she has to save up for the tank and I will buy the horses.... this is going to cost me:eek:

Algae blennys generally are quite hard to feed and many starve to death in captivity, even in tanks abundant with algae.

Het salty

Don't worry - its quite normal for algae to grow on seahorses (lets face it they ain't gonna set no rivers alight with their lightening speed). It could be a camouflage mechanism in the wild.

Here's a pic of my baby comes - note the designer cyano jacket with the custom made hole for the fin!

My algae blenny killed both my horses. I did try and save them but i think it was the stress.
