skim 2 blueline water level .

hi i have a skim 2 blue line which is the needle wheel version, its sat in water the depth of 18cms. with my finger over the airline when turned on ( so no bubbles ), how high should the water level be set at? also is the mesh wheel upgrade any better? have heard they clog and wear out quite quick, is this true? thanks:)

Your right to have the skimmer sat in 18cm of water.
As for level inside the skimmer well thats up to you! I have run mine in the past with the air on and the water 'breaking' level is inline with the bottom of the skimmer cup for a dryer skimmate of halfway up the riser tube for a very wet skim , anywhere inbetween for whatever skimmate your trying to achieve.
I ran a meshwheel for about 6 months while I had mine and it made a HHUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGEEEEEEEEE difference to the performance. I does need cleaning when you notice a devrease in performance but this was only once every couple of months for me so no big deal!
A couple of things to watch out for are the venturi hole blocking with salt , if left unchecked will stop air entering your skimmer resulting in an overflow of skimmate into your sump.Keep ontop of this with a small drill bit and swirl it round every couple of weeks.
The next thing to watch for is a stable water level in your sump. If you have the skimmer set to a wet skim and you put to much top up water in your sump the skimmer will overflow resulting in skimmate in your tank! This happened to me a few times as my auto topup isnt very accurate and fills it untill it feels like stopping.

cheers for the reply, will adjust it now to wet skim, and also look in to the mesh wheel. with this mod, did you have to raise or lower the skimmer in the sump, as i only have a 20cm depth in total. thanks:wave:

The skimmer stayed at the same level although I had to crank it down abit due to the increased air it pulled in.
Overall worth every penny to upgrade.
