View Full Version : Calibrating a ph probe
I have a GHL Profilux Plus 11
Is this how it's done.
New Probe:-
Rinse in RO water and dry .
Do I put the probe in the bottle of solution if so is it re-useable.
In the manual it says go up to the diaphragm. What is that ?
Take reading and repeat with higher solution.
Also in the manual it says enter the calibration tolerance (betwwen 1 - 3 )
What is this and how do I do it ?

I'll answer the questions in case anyone else wants to know even though you have sorted it.
You only need enough solution to cover the probe tip about 1-2cm. You can use the bottles, but they will spill as there is too much fluid in them.
It's best to decant into a clean cup/tube just enough to cover the tip and then discard after use. If you use the bottles then you run the risk of cross contaminating them, but if you are careful then this shouldn't be too much of a problem.
The calibration tolerance with a new probe should be set to 1, if the probe doesn't calibrate then you can retry using 2 then 3 etc. Basically it allows more time and a slightly greater inaccuracy to enable probes nearing the end of their life to still calibrate successfully.

When I retested the probes in the solution to check the calibration, the reading was 0.04 over is this right or should they be spot on.
Also I set my level 1 rading to 6.99 ( as the level 2 was at 7.0 default)
I had read a post that said someone had a problem setting level 1 to 7.0 as the level 2 was set at that .
Now I have level 2 at 9.0 I thought I would go back and change the level 1 to 7.0 but it won't let me.
Can you tell me how to do this.
One more thing .Is there meant to be a blanking plug for the PH socket (in case you don't use the probe) in the kit.I think I remember reading there is one to stop the alarm.Only I did not have one.
Thanx

0.04 is within the tolerance of 0.1 for pH probes so that is fine.
I am not sure what you mean about changing the value from 6.99, I have tried it here and it works fine?
There is no null plug required or supplied for the pH probe, you can just switch off activity if you are not using one. There is one supplied for the Redox probe on the EX version as it needs to be shorted to stop alarms when not in use.
