Hi all,

I know there is a thread just below with pretty much the same question but thought it would be rude to butt in.

So my question is what camera would you recommend on a budget of £400.00? There seems to be a few deals about at the moment but don't know which way to go, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Think most would say a Nikon or Canon would be good choices.

yeah go to jessops and try them out and buy the one that feels the best within you price range. there are really no bad Dslr's from Canon or Nikon these days.

Im a Nikon fan others are canon its personal choice really. I have the Nikon D80 becuase it feels better for me than a canon. Most importantly go to a local shop and try the two makes to see which one you feel comfortable holding etc.

I have a Canon 350D - love it.

Brilliant camera.

Have only just started with marines, no not really any fish pics to show you. But this is a link for my tank

Of you want me to do a test pic of something - let me know.

For around your budget you can pick up..
Canon EOS 450D + 18-55mm IS Lens for £433
Nikon D60 VR Lens Kit (AF-S 18-55mm VR) for £312
Sony Alpha A200 + 18-70 + 75-300mm Double Lens Kit for £360
Sony Alpha A350 + 18-70mm Lens Kit for £390
Prices from here (http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/index.html) and you'll find reviews of the models here (http://www.dpreview.com/).. but get out and feel the cameras for size. Ultimately the body is just a tool for the lens, so research the lens options and reviews as well. The prices for lenses can vary quite a bit between body makes/models.

Trading down the body (e.g. to the Canon 350D or the Nikon D40) will save more of the budget to add a specialist lens for better results (but there is also a case for getting as good a body as possible and saving to add better lenses later).

Canon/Nikon are the safer bets.. but there are some good pictures being taken with the Sonys, although I'm not familiar with the availability of lenses for the Sony/Minolta mount.
