:confused:the babies are now 5 weeks old some of them are about 2" long .does anyone know when they will be able to move to a larger tank.they are still feeding on brine and copepods but im due some more at any moment and cannot put anymore in the nursery.there are still 35 of them so i cannot split them into seperate tanks.any suggestions would be appreciated.they have grown so much and they are starting to change colour.the eldest reidi is about the same size so they will be joining mum and dad soon the rest of the reidi are still quite small so will take a little longer.:thanks:den

I would assume that if they are big enough to survive in a bigger tank (@ 2 inches) I would move them on providing it is a peacefull tank they are going into and that they would still be able to feed.
I won't move mine into a display tank with other fish until I'm 100% sure they're feeding on frozen food. If they're just going into a larger grow out tank you can move them at anytime. At two inches they should be getting ready to take frozen food now anyway? My concern is that if they go into a tank thats too big their food won't be concentrated enough and the bbs will get sucked up by the inevitably larger filters. What size tank have you got to move them into?

i was going to pick up a 40 litre tank as i now have the 35 barbs at 6 weeks the reidis and now54 more baby barbouris what frozon food would you suggest thanks den
A 40 litre sounds fine - I move mine into a 40 litre mainly to get adjusted to life with more flow! If they're 2" I would start to introduce some thawed mysis. The mysis that comes in the big blocks is great as the shrimps are still whole (ie have their eyeballs) which seems to make it easier in getting the babies to eat them, you also get lots of different size shrimps so oyu can pick the smallest ones. I choose a few of the biggest babies and sit there like a plank waggling a mysis at their snout on the end of long tweezers. After a week or two (earlier if your lucky) they should start having an experimental snick. sorry if you already know all this but when you waggle the mysis at them don't do it too close to them, do it at snouts reach, I then find they get curious and come over to have a look. Once some of the bigger babies are picking it up on their own the smaller ones should follow suit.

thanks sailfin i wll get my tweezers out and start makinglike a plank then:laugh:
lol well I do feel pretty stupid half the time especially as one of the grow out tanks is on the floor so it takes me quite some time to get up again when I've been sat there for three quarters of an hour :o
i find the gamma mysis slabs have mysis that are much smaller than the blister packs, so could be helpful

i tried them with a piece and a couple of them really went for it its disapeared so i think theyve eaten it
Thats brilliant news - nice one! One of the most important things with rearing fry is to get them onto the most nutritional foods asap (ie mysis in this case) so thats great news.
