Hi all

i am now playing with RAW on my 450D but i am having problems viewing the RAW images in the canon software.

i have both EOS utility and also file viewer were i should be able to edit RAW pics.

this is what does work, i connect the camera to my laptop and after a few seconds utlity starts up and the pics download fine, from there they also go direct to windows photo gallery and are displayed in RAW or jpeg no problem.

now for my problem, i cant seem to get file viewer to work with my camera or to pick up any RAW images from photo gallery etc although it does pick up jpeg ones. according to the help menu when a camera is pluged into the computer there should be a camera icon appear in the left hand side vertical column along with the computer and desktop icon's and by clicking it i should be able download the RAW images into file viewer, but all that i get is utility opening and pics going there..

bit confusing i know but thought id ask just incase anyones using the same software.

cheers

I have a 450d as well but im not too sure what you mean by the file viewer? When i download my pics using the EOS utility they open in Digital Photo Professional. This is a list of the apps that i got with my camera. If you can be more specific i'll look into it for you.

sorry just had another look, yes mine also opens up into Digital Photo Professional, but i have another icon on my desktop called file viewer, its icon is a little black camera with 3 colour squares this i thought was were RAW images could be played with then saved into jpegs for other applications such as posting on forums.

what do you do after yours have loaded into photo professional to alter and save RAW images..

Lol.... I was going to say that you can edit them in DPP. Its not a very powerful tool though. I use a combination of DPP, photoshop and adobe light room 2 to edit my RAW photos...i find Lightroom especially powerful and a good little tool for adjusting exposure, white balance, sharpness etc... i only use photoshop to background erase etc.

Good luck with your phots though. Im new to slr's so its taking a while to find out what everything does and how changing things effects the outcome!! :o

Photostich is an awsome bit of software though. This photo is inside Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and is 5 photos stitched together using that little app :D
