Hello All

I would be interested to see the results of nitrate and phosphate readings (hopefully 0 !) for those who are advocates of the mineral / miracle mud system.

Also, whether you have found ca and mg levels stable without the additional needs of supplements or the use of reactors and dosing.

Thanks.

Hi there

I have NO3 readings of around 2.5ppm, phosphates are tested on salifert and so need to use d&d but readings of 0.03ppm or round about. My other parameters do need supplements - Ca 430 to 460ppm and Mag was around 1350ppm

salifert 0&0
magnesium and ca etc all dropped quite quickly, but dosed,
now using a calc reactor

Thanks guys. Appreciate your input.

I've been debating to what is the most low maintenance of systems which will support sps.

hi

phos 0.008 d&d
nitrate 0-0.5 salifert
calicium 435
kh 10.5

phosban changed every 2 months
calc reactor on 8 hours
5-6 litres of kalk per day

tank is lightly stocked but fairly heavily fed and pretty good sps growth

Phosphates - D&D
P = 0 - 0.008 mg/l
PO4-3 = 0 - 0.024mg/l

Calcium - 450ppm

Tested last week:

D&D
PO4 0.008g/L (need to change the ultiphos)
Salifert
NO3 0 ppm
Ca 470 ppm
KH 8
Mg 1350 ppm
SG 1.027

Need to adjust SG and expect Ca and alk to come down a bit. Ran our previous ecosystem for 5 years and never had any sort of PO4 or NO3 readings.

Have always run a Ca reactor. I have never held much stock in the mud adding anything to the water. Even if it did it wouldn't last too long with the high demands for minerals that a heavily stocked SPS system would have.

Hi all

Latest readings
Nitrate - 0ppm on salifert
Phosphates - 0 - 0.008 D&D

Calcium - 465ppm
Mag - 1400ppm
Alk - DKH - 8.4 ish
pH - 8.1
SG 1.025

Looking good. I have recently changed the sump lighting to two 20w energy saver bulbs and reflectors and I have just added my ninth fish - scarlet hawkfish and brilliant little fish

I think I will check the parameters over the next few days and I may stop at 10 fish perhaps another small fish or I do fancy a reef pipefish when they are next available at my LFS any thoughts?
