Hi , my male giant reidi had his babies today, this is the first time for me, he had them at about 2 this afternoon and all the tank lights were on so most went to the surface I then turned the lights off but did then struggle to see the babies,as I have a 6ft tank, which does not help, maybe next time I will transfer the male to the small tank first? I managed to get most of them into the fry tank using a turkey baister, the fry tank was set up ready with blacked out sides and top and a light at the bottom , a heater and an airline, even though the tank is blacked out they keep going to the surface? and when I turned on the air line it jsut wipped them all around the tank so I turned it off, is this normal? and if not how do I stop that? also I have some rots, but how much should I feed them at at time and how many times a day etc, ?

you need to put one of those green/blue valve things so you turn down the flow.feed them upto 4 /5 times a day .depending how concentated your rots are if they are quite dilute about quarter to half a cup.if they are high consentrate i would add about an eeg cup ful.if you cant feed tha often just add more food in the morning.in the eve do a quarter water change using water from dads tank.....its a reg maternity ward at the moment.....den
Hi Debbie,
Congrats on the babies, hope all goes well with them,
from the posts i've been reading you surely seem to have followed the advice given :)
for feeding i wouldn't really know, but the experts are probably lurking in the shadows. I could see it being quite alot though.

try tying a oose knot in the air line to slow the flow????????

have attatched a larger bit of pipe and that seems to have slowed it down a bit, how much movement should I have?

you dont need too much but it will not hurt them going with the flow for a while its very fine bubbles that you dont want

no fine bubbles they are managing to just about hitch in some places that there is less current and then get swept along with it again but not getting bashed around , just moving with the flow, do you think that will be ok until tomorrow?

yes thats fine, its much better then no filteration some people use that method it stops the young from banging into the sides its called the kreissel or something like that method but they tend to do it in those glass biscuit jars

no too bad , but they still keep going to the top even though I have blacked out the top and sides and have a light at the bottom? I think I have about 30 ish left, but it is hard to see, I fed on just rots until yesterday , and have started today with a mix of rots and zm100 but not sure how much zm100 to give or if I have to mix it up or not?
thanks debs

take a tiny little amount and mix it with about a little tank water then add a little if they go for it add alittle more

he has had another lot today, I have removed quite a lot from the main tank but think there must be more hiding that is the problem with the tank being so big, it is really hard to find the babies. This lot seem to be a lot stronger than the last they are swimming around more not all at the top etc, could you remind me of how much rots I need to feed and when I should start the brine please?
thanks

oh and should I turn the light off at night?
im suprised no one picked up on it first time round, but i think your light intensity was too high.
just being in a light room/having the room lights on should be enough.
as you saw with your fry they will try and get as far away from the light as possible. with the next batch move the tube further away, or leave it off.
then again ive never raised or kept ponies.
